  • Stunning Beach & Pools

The beautiful private white sand beach and numerous swimming pools are recurring positives, offering ample space for relaxation and water-based fun.

  • Diverse Dining

The variety and quality of food in specialty restaurants, particularly the Teppanyaki, receive high marks, contributing to a satisfying culinary experience.

  • Exceptional Staff & Cleanliness

Friendly, professional, and attentive staff, coupled with the resort's overall cleanliness, are frequently highlighted as significant strengths by guests.

  • Luxurious Awe Spa

The impressive and expansive Awe Spa, the largest on the island, offers a top-tier wellness experience that guests deeply appreciate.

  • Prime Location

The resort's beachfront setting and close proximity to Ocho Rios town and popular attractions like Dunn's River Falls are highly valued.

Guests Warn

  • Service Consistency

Some guests report inconsistent service quality, including long wait times for check-in and at certain restaurants.

  • Dining Variability

While specialty restaurants shine, issues with food quality or availability at some buffets and occasional bland dishes have been noted.

  • Resort Credit Fees

The mandatory 16% service fee applied to items redeemed with resort credits can be a source of frustration for guests.

  • Crowding & Noise

Pools can become crowded during peak times, and the resort's lively environment in Ocho Rios can lead to higher noise levels.

  • Extra Costs for Activities

The on-site Dolphin Cove experience and other excursions are not included in the all-inclusive rate, which some guests find disappointing.

Overview

Moon Palace Jamaica operates on a prime beachfront in Ocho Rios — acquired and renovated in 2015, bringing the Palace Resorts product to Jamaica for the first time. The 705-room property offers the full Palace Resorts all-inclusive package: FlowRider wave simulator, Awe Spa (Jamaica's largest at 35,000 sq ft and 23 treatment rooms), The Playroom Kids Club for ages 4–12, and a dedicated Wired Lounge for teens. Children under 17 often stay free — confirm the age policy at booking.

Flight routing matters here more than at most Jamaican resorts. Guests flying into Ocho Rios (Ian Fleming Airport, OCJ) are 18 minutes away. Guests flying into Montego Bay (MBJ) face 1 hour 40 minutes to nearly 2 hours of transfer — plan to leave for MBJ at least 5 hours before your flight to account for the drive and airport processing.

The Dolphin Cove attraction sits on the property, but the dolphin experience itself is not included in the all-inclusive rate — it operates at extra charge. Guests who assume all on-site activities are included should check what the dolphin experience costs before planning their stay around it.

One financial detail that catches guests off guard: a mandatory 16% service fee is applied when using resort credits for spa treatments, excursions, or premium dining. This isn't a small surcharge — budget for it if you're planning to use credits. The resort is otherwise all-inclusive, but this charge surfaces specifically when redeeming credits rather than the base all-inclusive package.

Pros

  • +The Awe Spa is Jamaica's largest at 35,000 sq ft with 23 treatment rooms — it's a destination in itself, not just a standard resort spa add-on.
  • +The private beach is the longest white-sand stretch in Ocho Rios and genuinely swimmable — a real differentiator from rougher-water Jamaica properties.
  • +The FlowRider wave simulator and Wired Lounge teen club are included and provide substantive activity for guests of ages that most all-inclusives neglect.

Cons

  • −The mandatory 16% service fee on resort credit redemptions (spa, excursions, premium dining) is a significant surcharge that catches guests off guard — budget for it explicitly.
  • −Dolphin Cove is on-site but not included in the all-inclusive — it costs extra, and guests who assume it's covered will be surprised at check-out.
  • −Guests flying into Montego Bay face a 1 hour 40-minute transfer — plan departure time 5 hours before your MBJ flight to avoid missing it.

Tips

  • Book the Góndola teppanyaki through the Moon Palace app as soon as you arrive — it fills before other specialty venues and is the most specific culinary experience on property.
  • Use the app to schedule room service breakfast the night before — it avoids the buffet rush and takes 2 minutes to set up.
  • Arrive at the Awe Spa at least an hour before your treatment to use the full hydrotherapy circuit — the circuit is as good as the treatment itself.
  • If departing from MBJ, leave the resort 5 hours before your flight — the drive is scenic but long, and Jamaican customs processing adds time.
