Club Med Cherating Beach Closes Oct. 11 for a Full Jungle Renovation
Malaysia's first Club Med in Asia shuts Oct. 11 for a nature-led rebuild, with jungle experiences planned and farewell charity auctions through Oct. 8.
Club Med Cherating Beach will close on Oct. 11, 2026, for a full renovation that repositions Club Med's first Asia resort around its self-contained jungle and beachfront setting in Malaysia.
Opened in 1979, Cherating remains the only Club Med in Asia with an 80-hectare jungle inside the property. The remodel keeps that low-density footprint under the group's Happy to Care sustainability approach while upgrading accommodations, public spaces, and guest facilities. Travelers with dates after Oct. 10 should treat the property as offline until Club Med publishes a firm reopening window, widely described as a multi-year project into 2027 or beyond.
What the renewed resort is aiming for
Club Med says the redesign will pull the jungle closer to daily life through open spaces, natural materials, and locally inspired design rather than walling guests away from the forest. Five signature experiences are already named for the next chapter: Jungle Express transport through the rainforest to Pantai beach, a Cliffside Challenge eco-climb above the coast, Jungle Discovery Trails developed with a local NGO, Farm-to-Fork dining in the jungle, and a Firefly Mangrove Cruise in the evening.
Southeast Asia and Pacific CEO Rachael Harding called Cherating Club Med's first home in Asia and framed the project as a more sophisticated nature escape, not a denser mega-resort. For guests who book Cherating specifically for the forest-and-beach mix, that message matters: the rebuild is meant to keep biodiversity and the existing footprint intact while refreshing rooms and shared spaces.
What to do if you planned to visit now
If you still want a last look at the current resort, Club Med has been running farewell programming through early October, including sports challenges, a memory wall, a weekly street-style market, and charity auctions of resort memorabilia. The final auction is set for Oct. 8, with proceeds going to charity.
Practical next steps are simple. Do not book new stays that arrive on or after Oct. 11 until Club Med confirms reopening inventory. Guests already holding dates across the closure should contact Club Med or their advisor for rebooking options at other Asia properties. When Cherating returns, expect a nature-forward all-inclusive with clearer jungle programming rather than a like-for-like reopen of the 1979 layout.
