Royalton CHIC Punta Cana's identity is clearest in its pool area: a DJ booth sits inside the main pool, not adjacent to it, and the entertainment schedule is designed around pool parties rather than poolside entertainment. The Mermaid Pool — an elevated pool with intricate mosaic tile work and glass walls — exists specifically as a visual centerpiece and photo destination. These are deliberate design choices that signal what kind of resort this is: social, visual, and experience-driven rather than conventionally resort-quiet.
The property markets itself with comparisons to Vegas and South Beach. The target guest is adults traveling in groups for friends' trips, bachelor/bachelorette events, or couples who want an upbeat social environment. The Indian restaurant (Tandori) and the steakhouse receive the most consistent food praise; these are worth prioritizing over the buffet, which guests describe as predictable. The Oxygen Bar is an unusual addition — recreational oxygen sessions — that speaks to the experience-focused concept.
Two recurring practical concerns stand out in guest reviews: the stone surfaces throughout the resort become dangerously slippery when wet (a real safety issue — appropriate footwear matters), and the waves at Uvero Alto Beach can be too rough for comfortable swimming. This is an Atlantic-facing beach without the protection of the sheltered Bavaro lagoon — the beach is beautiful, but it's better for sunbathing than swimming in most conditions.
Practically: Uvero Alto is about 40 km from Punta Cana International Airport — the transfer takes 45–55 minutes, longer than most Punta Cana properties. The resort originally opened in 2014 and was fully renovated and relaunched under Royalton CHIC branding in 2021. The CHIC Mansion option — 11,500 sq ft on the resort grounds — is an extreme outlier for large group bookings.
