When Paradisus merged La Perla (adults-only) and La Esmeralda (family) into a single resort in July 2020, they created something genuinely unusual in the Mexican all-inclusive market: a property that functions simultaneously as a family resort and an adults-oriented experience, with distinct physical zones for each. Family Concierge guests have a dedicated lazy river, kids' club, and family pools. Adults who want minimal interaction with children can gravitate toward the adults-preferred sections and the Passion by Martín Berasategui end of the dining program.
This dual personality is the property's greatest strength and its main tension point. Families with children rate the Family Concierge tier exceptionally — the lazy river, the 24-hour kids' club, the dedicated concierge who manages activity scheduling, and the family swim-up suites make it one of Mexico's best setups for parents. Adults traveling without children who didn't notice the family orientation when booking sometimes feel the resort doesn't match their expectations for a quieter, adults-oriented experience.
With 39 dining and drinking venues on-site, this is one of the more extensively equipped resort dining programs in the Riviera Maya. Passion by Martín Berasategui is the culinary anchor; the reservation system operates across 39 venues total, but most guests are competing for the 8–10 actual specialty restaurants. Book these at check-in immediately.
The beach is a 300-meter section of Riviera Maya white sand — good quality but subject to seasonal sargassum seaweed accumulation from May through October. The resort manages removal daily, but heavy accumulation weeks significantly reduce beach usability.
Playa del Carmen is about 45 minutes from Cancún airport and 30 minutes from the Tulum area — good positioning for off-property excursions to both directions.
