Ocean Varadero El Patriarca—now operating as Valentin El Patriarca Varadero following a brand change—is an adults-only all-inclusive built in 2012 on what is consistently rated among the best stretches of Varadero Beach. The 420-room property leans modern and offers something unusual for Cuba: nine distinct à la carte dinner restaurants included in the rate, all requiring formal dress and advance reservations. That variety is the core appeal—more specialty dining options than virtually anything else in Varadero.
A specific note on Cuban all-inclusive star ratings: the 5-star designation here reflects Cuban hospitality industry grading, not international standards. Most guests who have stayed at genuinely 5-star Caribbean properties elsewhere find this closer to a strong 3.5 or 4-star experience—the food is good for Cuba, the service is warm, and the facilities are modern, but the depth of luxury and product consistency do not match what the star count implies. That is not a criticism of this resort specifically; it is how Cuban resort grading works.
The resort's most distinctive feature is the literal 500-year-old 'El Patriarca' cactus standing in the gardens—a protected natural monument that gives the property its name and something genuinely memorable to show guests. Mike's Coffee Shop has earned genuine praise from repeat visitors as the standout coffee option in Varadero.
In-room Wi-Fi is available for Privilege guests, which is still relatively unusual in Varadero where internet access is state-regulated and inconsistent. Plan around this if reliable connectivity matters. The airport is 34 km away, approximately a 40-minute drive along a scenic coastal road.
