Green Globe Gold Status

Green Globe
Occidental at Xcaret Destination's specific advantage over any other Riviera Maya all-inclusive is the Xcaret park adjacency. The resort sits directly next to Xcaret eco-archaeological park — one of Mexico's most visited natural attractions, covering 202 acres with underground rivers, ancient Mayan ruins, wildlife habitats, and the nightly Xcaret Mexico Espectacular show. Guests can add the Unlimited Xcaret Xperience package for unlimited daily entry to the park, which transforms the vacation from a standard beach stay to a destination with a full attraction program.
The resort itself opened in 2002 and renovated significantly in 2016 — many of the 765 rooms have been refurbished since. The physical design is unusual for a Riviera Maya hotel: natural river formations run through the property, authentic Mayan ruins are integrated into the grounds, and jungle vegetation surrounds the structures. The resort holds Green Globe Gold status for five consecutive years of verified sustainability certification, which reflects genuine environmental practice rather than marketing language.
For families, the combination of 7 pools (5 freshwater, 1 adults-only saltwater, 1 kids' pool), mini-golf, archery, tennis, and Xcaret park access creates a dense activity calendar. The Kids Club covers ages 4–12 and the Teen Club ages 12–18 — one of the few properties with a dedicated teen program. The private bay beach is calm and protected, with clear water suitable for family swimming and snorkeling.
The honest limitation: 765 rooms is a large property. At peak occupancy, the buffet queues and popular pools get crowded. The 45–60 minute drive from Cancun International Airport (CUN) is longer than most Cancun properties, though it's typical for southern Riviera Maya locations. Premium spirits cost extra on the standard all-inclusive rate.
