Restaurant Reservation Challenges
Securing reservations for the popular à la carte restaurants can be difficult and often requires booking immediately upon arrival, with service sometimes noted as slow.

The Iberostar Selection Paraíso Maya is a well-established 5-star all-inclusive in Riviera Maya, positioned 38–47 km from Cancún International Airport (CUN) — a 30–45 minute drive. The resort is part of the wider Iberostar Paraíso Complex, which grants guests access to facilities, pools, and dining at neighboring properties (excluding Iberostar Grand Paraíso).
The architectural concept is built around Mayan cultural reference. The Lobby Bar reproduces the Chichén Itzá pyramid — a full-scale decorative statement that serves as the visual and social center of the resort. Beyond aesthetics, the property holds EarthCheck certification and operates under Iberostar's Wave of Change sustainability program, which includes plastic elimination and responsible seafood sourcing.
Nine pools provide significant aquatic variety. The water park zone includes a wave pool, lazy river, and the Aquafun Splash Park with slides and a pirate ship. A swim-up bar pool with a waterfall feature handles the social crowd. A lap pool serves fitness swimmers. Two private pools are associated with specific building sections. Children's pool areas sit adjacent to the Star Camp zone. Complex exchange expands pool access further — when any individual pool becomes crowded, neighboring Iberostar properties are accessible on foot.
Dining via the complex spans 20 restaurants and 8 bars. At Paraíso Maya specifically: L'Etoile (French, age 12+), Prime Rib El Rancho (steakhouse), La Geisha (teppanyaki, with show cooking), Lemon & Spices (Greek), La Marina (seafood dinner / international breakfast buffet), Under the Sea (American-style sustainable seafood), and Trattoria Olivetti (Italian, with a pizza corner snack option). All specialty restaurants are included but require reservations. La Geisha's teppanyaki preparation happens at the table — the most interactive dining experience at this property.
Spa Sensations provides a hydrotherapy circuit (pools, plunge pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, Turkish bath/hammam) with one complimentary hour of adult access. This requires advance booking — it doesn't happen automatically. Massages and beauty treatments are extra charge.
Star Camp covers ages 4–17 in three groups (Monkey, Dolphin, Eagle). The teen component includes gaming consoles and a teen disco. The Galaxy Discotheque runs nightly for guests over 18. Rooms received guest feedback noting dated decor — a renovation appears overdue in the standard tiers, while suites remain well-regarded.
