The Iberostar Selection Diar El Andalous has been operating since 1981 on a private beachfront in Port El Kantaoui — the oldest in the Iberostar Tunisia portfolio, which means it has the most established infrastructure but also the least recent renovation. The 2015 update brought the wellness area and some room categories up to current standard; other parts of the property show the accumulated character of a long-running operation, which some guests find charming and others find dated.
Tunisia as a destination shapes what this resort does differently. The Al Hambra buffet features proper Tunisian cooking — sliced beef, grilled lamb, regional dishes with spice — not a token 'Mediterranean' section. The La Chicha Moorish Café (extra charge) serves mint tea, Turkish coffee, and hookah, which is a distinctly local cultural touch that most all-inclusives don't attempt. Port El Kantaoui marina is accessible from the property, adding an off-site dimension to the stay.
The Star Prestige zone sits on a rooftop sun terrace with Balinese beds, a hydro massage pool, private pool, and dedicated open bar (ages 16+). This makes the adults-only upgrade meaningful: the rooftop location with Mediterranean views is genuinely a better experience than the standard pool area during busy peak weeks.
The main operational note is that the Italian and Tunisian a la carte restaurant offers one complimentary dinner per stay per guest — subsequent visits require an extra charge. This is worth knowing before planning the dining week. The spa has six treatment rooms, which is a specific and notable figure for this price tier in Tunisia.
