Guests consistently rave about the magnificent, unobstructed views of the Bay of Kotor and the Adriatic Sea, visible from many rooms and dining areas, creating a truly picturesque setting.

  • Exceptional Staff

The resort's staff receive universal praise for being incredibly friendly, polite, attentive, and helpful, contributing significantly to a welcoming and pleasant guest experience.

  • Pristine Cleanliness

Both the guest rooms and public facilities are noted for their exceptional cleanliness and tidy upkeep, reflecting high standards of hygiene throughout the property.

  • Private Beach Access

The convenience of direct and private access to a lovely shingle/pebble beach, complete with free sunbeds and sea platforms, is a major highlight for sunbathing and swimming.

  • Quality All-Inclusive Dining

Many guests enjoy the delicious, varied, and fresh buffet offerings, which include a wide array of international and local dishes, fresh produce, and quality beverages.

  • Boat Shuttle Service

The organized boat transfer from the hotel's pier to Herceg Novi town is highly appreciated for its convenience and scenic route, offering easy exploration of the local area.

Guests Warn

  • Secluded Location

The hotel's location, while offering stunning views, is somewhat isolated from the main Herceg Novi town center, requiring transportation for exploration and local amenities.

  • Hillside Accessibility

Built into a hillside, the resort features numerous stairs and inclines, which might pose a challenge for guests with limited mobility or those seeking easy strolls.

  • Seasonal AC & Services

Air conditioning is often limited to peak summer months (June-August), and some facilities or services may be reduced or closed during the off-season, impacting overall guest experience.

  • Food Repetition

While generally praised, some guests staying for longer durations found the buffet food variety could become repetitive, and occasionally noted issues with food temperature.

  • Potential Noise

A few guests reported noise from evening entertainment or music playing past midnight, which could affect sleep quality depending on room location.

Overview

The Iberostar Herceg Novi opened June 2018 following a full renovation of an existing property. It occupies a terraced hillside at the mouth of the Bay of Kotor, which means two things: the views are genuinely dramatic — layers of mountain, bay, and Adriatic visible from most balconies — and accessing different parts of the resort involves stairs. Mobility-impaired guests should inquire specifically about step-free routes before booking.

The resort's setting is its strongest differentiator. Most Adriatic resorts at this price point sit on flat coast; Iberostar Herceg Novi's terraced position on a promontory puts the water within steps of most rooms. The private shingle beach (not sand — the Adriatic coast here is predominantly pebble and rock) comes with free sun loungers and floating sea platforms for swimming. The water quality is consistently praised.

The closest airports are Dubrovnik (DBV) at 30–60 minutes depending on border wait times, and Tivat (TIV) at 60–75 minutes. The border crossing between Croatia and Montenegro at Debeli Brijeg is the wildcard in journey time — it can add an hour during summer peaks.

This property suits couples and families who want a relaxed, nature-forward Mediterranean holiday rather than an entertainment-heavy beach resort. The all-inclusive program is basic by Caribbean standards: one buffet restaurant, four bars, and afternoon snacks. There are no specialty à la carte restaurants. The Star Camp kids' club handles children 4–17 in age-segmented groups, and the boat shuttle to Herceg Novi town is a practical way to explore the Old Town and surrounding area without renting a car.

Pros

  • +Bay of Kotor hillside position provides genuinely dramatic views rarely found at this price point
  • +Private shingle beach with free loungers and sea platforms is well-maintained and consistently praised for water quality
  • +Staff receive some of the strongest service reviews of any Iberostar property in the portfolio
  • +Boat shuttle to Herceg Novi Old Town is a practical convenience that makes the location genuinely explorable without a car
  • +Food quality and variety at the main buffet is routinely praised above expectations for a single-restaurant all-inclusive

Cons

  • −Terraced hillside layout requires navigating stairs — not suitable for guests with limited mobility
  • −No specialty à la carte restaurants — guests eating dinner every night at the same buffet for a week may find it repetitive
  • −Sky Bar and some beach amenities are high-season only — off-season visits lose some of the atmosphere
  • −Airport transfers from Dubrovnik involve a border crossing with unpredictable wait times

Tips

  • Request a room on a higher floor with direct bay view at booking — the view differential is significant and costs the same
  • The boat shuttle runs on a schedule; check the current season's times immediately after arrival to plan day trips
  • Use the Iberostar App to track daily activity schedules and pool/beach programming
  • The Sky Bar at sunset is worth prioritizing on clear evenings — arrive early for a spot on the terrace
