Rating8.1Adults OnlyThe activity list is genuinely large for a resort of this size. The headliners are Splash Water World (water park with multiple slide types, included) and the Pacha discotheque on-site (free entry, open six nights a week until 2 a.m.). Non-motorized water sports at the beach are included. Motorized water sports, extended scuba diving, and golf at a nearby course (5 km away) are available at extra cost through external operators. The RiuLand kids' club runs daily programming for ages 4–12.
One of three general-use pools for all guests. Standard resort pool with loungers and umbrellas. No particular distinguishing feature — solid option when the main activity pool is too loud.
A larger pool with in-pool tiled loungers and the Mezcal swim-up bar. Restricted to guests 18+. The combination of swim-up bar and tiled loungers makes this the most popular spot for adult guests. Gets crowded by mid-morning on peak days.
General-use pool with loungers. Lower activity level than the swim-up bar pool. A quieter alternative for guests who want to swim without the social scene around the bar.
The designated pool for organized games and water activities run by the animation team. If you want to join pool volleyball or organized games, this is where it happens. If you want quiet swimming, avoid this pool during the organized activity windows.
The calmest pool on the property — 18+ only with its own bar. The atmosphere here is markedly different from the family-oriented main pools. Claim a lounger early; this pool is smaller than the general pools and fills quickly with guests seeking a quieter environment.
Shallow pool with small slides designed specifically for younger children. Adjacent to the main pool area. Supervised atmosphere — the obvious option for keeping children under 6 in the water safely.
The on-site water park is the primary family differentiator for this property. Four-lane body slides, a free-fall drop slide, and a tube slide for guests over 1.20m height. A separate area for smaller children. Included in the all-inclusive — this is a genuine value add compared to resorts that charge separately for water park access. Open six days a week (check current closure day at reception).
One of the genuinely calmer beaches accessible from a Cancún-area resort. White sand, turquoise water, and notably less boat traffic and wave activity than the main Cancún Hotel Zone. Swimmable most days. Sun loungers and umbrellas are included. Non-motorized water sports launch from here. The water clarity is consistently good — snorkeling directly off the beach is worth doing.
Complimentary kayak rentals available at the beach. Costa Mujeres has calmer waters than the hotel zone, making this more accessible for beginners. No sign-up required; equipment available on a first-come basis.
Gear included. The snorkeling directly off Costa Mujeres beach is decent — better than the main Cancún zone due to less boat traffic. Worth doing at least once.
Complimentary catamaran use from the beach. Wind conditions in Costa Mujeres are generally good for sailing. Check with the beach team on daily availability.
Boards available at the beach, included in the rate. Calm conditions most mornings — easier to learn here than at windier Caribbean beaches.
Small catamaran sailing included. Better for guests with some sailing experience. Beach staff can provide basic instruction.
Boards available at the beach. The shore break at Costa Mujeres is mild, suitable for kids and casual riders.
Complimentary introductory pool lesson — this is a resort experience, not a certification course. Done in one of the property's pools with a staff diver. Good entry point for guests considering a paid open-water dive through the external operator.
Fully equipped gym open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sports shoes required (enforced). Reasonably well-equipped for a resort gym.
Scheduled group classes — aqua aerobics, beach volleyball games, etc. — run by resort animators. Check the daily schedule at the activity desk. Participation varies by season.
Available in the Sports Bar, 24 hours. One of the few activities accessible at night without going to the disco.
Organized games on the beach, plus equipment for informal play. One of the more active daytime social activities.
Casual pétanque available during the day. More a passing activity than a scheduled event.
Available in the Sports Bar area. Casual and walk-in.
Supervised daily programming split into two age groups: 4–7 and 8–12. Structured around crafts, games, treasure hunts, and light sports. Gives parents a predictable window for adult-only time. Free.
The main family draw — an on-site water park with 4-lane body slides, a free-fall slide, and a tube slide. Height minimum of 1.20m for certain slides. A separate zone caters to younger children. Included in the all-inclusive rate, which is a significant perk over resorts that charge extra.
Outdoor playground for younger children separate from the water park and pools. Useful for parents who need a dry play space.
Daily program of organized activities for adults — ranges from pool games to themed competitions. Quality varies by animators; some guests find it lively, others ignore it entirely.
Live shows at the outdoor plaza most evenings — themed performances, variety acts, live music. Quality is average for a mass-market all-inclusive. Better as background entertainment than as the evening's main event.
On-site club, free entry, six nights a week from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. Drinks included. The Pacha affiliation means a branded environment rather than a generic hotel disco. Active but not comparable to standalone Pacha venues.
Themed adult parties several times weekly with DJs. The weekly Dunamar Riu Party is explicitly designated family-friendly. More of a lively pool/beach gathering than a nightclub event.
24/7 air-conditioned bar with multiple sports screens and billiards. The most reliable activity hub for guests who aren't interested in the evening shows or disco.
Located within the spa/changing facilities. Adults only (18+), included in the rate. A quiet respite from the active pool areas.
Hot and cold whirlpool options in the spa area. Adults only (18+), included. More practical than the beach massages for quick muscle recovery.
Full open-water dives and certification courses arranged through an external dive operator on the beach. Extra charge. The Cancún underwater national park and MUSA underwater museum are nearby and worth the investment.
Jet ski rentals through an external beach operator. Extra charge. Available during beach operating hours.
Parasailing, banana boats, and other motorized activities through external operators on the beach. Extra charge.
A golf course approximately 5 km from the property. Green fees and transport at extra cost. Not integrated into the resort — you'll arrange this independently or through concierge.
The resort's concierge can arrange excursions: a VIP catamaran trip to Isla Mujeres, boat trips to Punta Cocos, Chichen Itza day trips, and cenote tours. These are extra charge, operated by third parties. Worth booking Isla Mujeres early — it's a standout day trip from this location.
