  • Lift Waiting Times

Some guests have experienced occasional delays or longer waits for the hotel's lifts, particularly during peak usage periods.

  • Specific Amenity Changes

Pre-renovation guests occasionally express nostalgia for amenities like the former hot tub or ground floor bar, indicating changes to consider with the refurbishment.

  • All-Inclusive Clarity

Guests should proactively clarify specific all-inclusive inclusions at booking, given the historical 'Half Board' status versus the anticipated comprehensive Riu Palace program post-renovation.

Overview

The Riu Calypso completed a full renovation in November 2025 and simultaneously became a Riu Palace property — the upgrade from its previous 4-star standing is architectural and amenity-based rather than cosmetic. The most tangible change is the addition of the Krystal gourmet restaurant, a saltwater chlorination system for the main pool, and a new chill-out terrace with whirlpool. It sits directly on Playa de Jandia, which is one of Fuerteventura's better beaches: long, sandy, and far enough from Corralejo that it doesn't carry the same tourist-zone density.

Important clarification before booking: this property operates on Half Board (breakfast and dinner included) rather than full all-inclusive. Bars, lunch, the snack bar, and drinks outside meals cost extra. The original content suggests this may have changed post-renovation, but verifying the current package at time of booking is essential — the difference in daily spend is significant.

This is an adults-only property that suits couples and solo travelers who want a quiet, beach-forward base. Fuerteventura is one of Europe's premier windsurfing and kitesurfing destinations — the beach here catches the trades well — and the resort is a good launchpad for water sports, though none are included. Morro Jable town is walkable and adds genuine local character that many Fuerteventura resorts lack.

The 90-minute coach transfer from Fuerteventura Airport (FUE) is the logistical reality at this southern-tip location. It's not a dealbreaker but it's worth knowing before you arrive after a long-haul flight.

Pros

  • +Direct beachfront on Playa de Jandia — one of Fuerteventura's longer and less crowded beaches.
  • +Full 2025 renovation means rooms and facilities genuinely feel new rather than refreshed.
  • +Adults-only (18+) atmosphere with Morro Jable town walkable for local dining and character.
  • +Saltwater pool system is more comfortable for regular swimmers than standard chlorine.
  • +New Krystal gourmet restaurant adds a meaningful dining option beyond the standard buffet.

Cons

  • −Half Board rather than all-inclusive — daily beverage and lunch costs add up quickly and are not immediately obvious from marketing materials.
  • −90-minute transfer from Fuerteventura Airport (FUE) is the longest on the island.
  • −Spa thermal facilities are at extra cost — unlike some Palace properties where they're included.
  • −Limited on-property activities compared to larger Riu all-inclusive complexes.

Tips

  • Verify exactly what's included in your package (Half Board vs. all-inclusive) before budgeting for the trip.
  • Book the Krystal restaurant on arrival — it will sell out in high season.
  • Walk into Morro Jable for dinner one evening — the local restaurants offer a refreshing contrast to the resort food.
  • Bring windproof layers for beach afternoons; the southern tip's trade winds cool down quickly after 3pm.
  • Sea-view rooms are worth the premium — the Playa de Jandia view from a balcony at sunrise is genuinely good.
