Stunning Beach & Pools
The 800-meter white-sand beach and multiple pool options consistently earn high praise. Guests love the turquoise Caribbean water, and families appreciate the dedicated kids water park and adults-only El Secreto pool.
Helpful & Friendly Staff
Service staff across restaurants, pools, and activities receive frequent compliments. Many guests single out specific bartenders, waiters, and activity coordinators who went above and beyond.
Family-Friendly Paradise
The kids clubs across three age groups, water park, and endless daily activities make this a top pick for families. The 2023 Family Selection renovation has elevated the family experience significantly.
Expansive Resort Complex
Access to three resorts' worth of restaurants, bars, and pools gives guests an enormous range of choices. Guests who enjoy exploring appreciate the variety and scale of the complex.
Beautiful Natural Setting
The resort's lush tropical vegetation, mangrove forests, natural cenotes, and resident wildlife (coatis, capybaras, birds) create a unique jungle-meets-beach atmosphere that guests love.
Inconsistent Food Quality
While the range of dining options is praised, food quality can be hit-or-miss, particularly at buffet restaurants. Some a la carte venues receive better reviews than others, and guests note the 3-4 dinner limit per week is restrictive.
Very Large Property
The sprawling complex requires significant walking or shuttle rides between areas. Guests in rooms far from the main pool or restaurants can find the distances tiring, especially in tropical heat.
Sargassum Seaweed
Like all Riviera Maya resorts, the beach can experience heavy sargassum seaweed accumulation, particularly between April and August. The resort cleans the beach daily but cannot fully control this natural phenomenon.
Dated Sections
Despite the 2023 renovation, some areas and standard rooms outside the Family Selection section still show their age. Guests expecting uniformly modern facilities may notice the contrast between renovated and original areas.

The $40 million renovation Grand Palladium Kantenah completed in December 2023 wasn't a cosmetic refresh — it introduced an entirely new accommodation category called Family Selection, adding rooftop private pools, swim-up suites, and beachfront positioning that didn't exist before. The renovation focused investment on the parts of the resort that command the highest rates, which means guests in standard categories largely see upgraded public spaces while the new Family Selection wing gets the headline amenities.
Kantenah works well for families who want scale without sacrificing beach quality. The 800-meter stretch of Caribbean sand here is genuinely good — fine white sand with warm turquoise water — and the complex's cross-access with Grand Palladium Colonial and White Sand adds enough dining and pool options that variety isn't a constraint. The pirate-themed water park and three distinct kids clubs (Baby Club ages 1-3, El Ranchito ages 4-12, Black & White Junior Club ages 13+) make the logistics of traveling with multiple children more manageable than at most competitors. Adults without children in tow may find the family focus a bit much — the El Secreto adults-only pool exists but the general atmosphere skews young.
The specific drawback worth understanding before booking: a la carte restaurant dinners are limited to 3-4 per week depending on stay length, and the Sumptuori teppanyaki table fills the moment reservations open. The Chic Cabaret and BRAVO Dinner & Dance shows carry surcharges not covered by the Infinite Indulgence rate. The beach accumulates sargassum seaweed between April and August — a regional issue that affects most Riviera Maya properties but Kantenah's stretch gets its share. Also note that as of late 2025, some previously shared dining venues with neighboring Palladium properties are no longer accessible to Kantenah guests.
Practically: 422 rooms, mid-tier pricing for the Riviera Maya, 70 minutes from Cancun International Airport. The Infinite Indulgence program covers all meals at buffet and a la carte restaurants, unlimited drinks, non-motorized water sports, fitness center, kids clubs, and nightly entertainment. Hydrotherapy at Zentropia Spa costs $50 per person per day unless you book a treatment. Premium WiFi requires an upcharge over the basic complimentary connection.
