Dreams Karibana opened in April 2022 as a rebrand of the former Conrad Cartagena, retaining the original building's architecture inside the gated Karibana community on the Colombian Caribbean coast. The location is the defining characteristic: a private, secured complex with direct beach access, five pools, and immediate access to the TPC Cartagena golf course — the only TPC-certified layout in South America and a meaningful differentiator for golf-focused travelers. The resort is 20–30 minutes (10–12 miles) from Rafael Núñez International Airport.
This property works for families and couples who want a Caribbean all-inclusive with genuine golf access and a city with serious cultural draw nearby. The complimentary weekend shuttle to the historic Walled City (a UNESCO World Heritage site) makes Cartagena's cobblestoned centro more accessible than it would be from a typical resort strip. Guests who want to stay purely on-property and never leave will find the facilities adequate, though the dining variety (six venues for 268 rooms) is more limited than larger AMR Collection properties.
The honest limitation is the beach. Manzanillo Beach — described variously by guests as golden sand, black sand, or white sand — is 100 meters from the main resort building. The beach is scenic but can be affected by strong winds that blow sand onto loungers and seating areas, and the wind can make extended beach time uncomfortable on gusty days. The in-property pools are more reliably usable.
All 268 rooms are suites, starting at 589 sq ft — the entry level here is genuinely spacious. The most distinctive room categories are the Master Suite Swim-Out (private pool from the terrace) and the Presidential Suite configurations topping out at 2,741 sq ft. The Unlimited-Luxury rate covers all à la carte dining (no reservations typically required), unlimited top-shelf spirits, 24-hour room service, kids' and teens' club access, and the weekend city shuttle. Golf is an extra charge at discounted rates for resort guests.
Cartagena's climate is hot year-round with a wet season from May through November — rainfall comes in afternoon bursts rather than sustained overcast periods. High season is December through April. Book at least six months ahead for Christmas and Carnival weeks (February).
