Dreams Bahia Mita opened in 2020 on Punta Burros Beach in Punta Mita, sharing an expansive property with the adults-only Secrets Bahia Mita. The shared-campus arrangement is the defining feature of this resort: Dreams guests can access most of the Secrets side of the property, including additional pools and dining venues, though the strictly adults-only zones remain off limits. For families traveling with teenage children this creates an unusually broad range of options; for couples expecting a fully adults-only environment, it causes friction. The beach itself is genuinely surf-friendly — waves and a sandy bottom make it one of the more active stretches on Banderas Bay, but it's not a calm wading beach for toddlers.
The resort works best for families with children who are old enough to use the water park and teen club independently. The Explorer's Club runs 9am–10pm for ages 3–12 with Red Cross-certified staff; the CoreZone teens club runs noon–10pm for ages 13–17. Combined with 27 dining venues, a 12,200 sq ft main infinity pool, and an 18,600 sq ft water park, the property generates enough activity that most families never need to leave. Couples without children will find the property comfortable but busy — consider adults-only options at Secrets if the family atmosphere is a concern.
The main honest drawback is scale. The resort is large and multi-level, and the walk from certain room buildings to the beach is significant. Some guests report slippery pool surrounds as a safety issue. The water park doesn't open until 11am, which frustrates families with young children who are poolside by 8am. The boundary between Dreams and Secrets can also be confusing — the app helps navigate it but doesn't eliminate the problem.
All 421 rooms are suites, starting at Junior Suite level. Sizes range from roughly 500 sq ft for entry-level rooms to 1,500 sq ft for the Preferred Club Presidential Suite. The Unlimited-Luxury program covers all restaurant dining (no reservations required at most venues), unlimited top-shelf spirits, 24-hour room service, and a daily refreshed minibar. The Preferred Club upgrade adds a private lounge, dedicated concierge, rooftop infinity pool, and Sky Bar access. Puerto Vallarta International Airport is 40–50 minutes away.
January through March brings whale watching on Banderas Bay — visible from the shore without any additional excursion cost. High season (December–April) fills the property; booking the Teppanyaki tables at Himitsu or Meraki on arrival day is essential as they require advance reservations and fill quickly.
