Desire Pearl is one of the few resorts in the Caribbean that leads with its clothing-optional policy as a feature rather than a footnote. The 96-room adults-only (21+, couples only) property sits on a private beach in Puerto Morelos — between Cancun and Playa del Carmen — and divides its spaces between designated clothing-optional areas (pools, Jacuzzi Lounge, sections of the beach, the Sin Room at the nightclub) and areas where it's not required. The resort is explicit about this; guests who book knowing what they're getting tend to have a very different experience than those surprised by the environment.
The property opened in 2012 as a conversion of the former Ceiba del Mar resort, and expanded in winter 2020 with the Desire Mansion — a section of nine larger suite categories with dedicated amenities, butler service in the top tiers, and a private swim-up pool for Mansion Swim-Up Suite guests. The Mansion Royal Suites and Mansion Royal Oceanfront Suites include round-trip airport transfers, top-shelf liquor, a 50-minute massage, and professional salon services as part of the rate — substantially different inclusions from the base room categories.
Dining is genuinely strong for a 96-room property: three full-service specialty restaurants (Aphrodite for international, Pearl for Mediterranean-French, Suki for Asian fusion with teppanyaki), plus a pizzeria, a burger bar, and late-night snacks available from Pearl and Addiction until 5 AM. The Suki teppanyaki requires a reservation. Evening dress codes apply at all three dinner restaurants — sensual elegance at Aphrodite, formal elegance at Pearl. This is relevant for packing.
The honest drawback is sargassum. Puerto Morelos is on the Caribbean coast of the Yucatán, which has experienced heavy seaweed accumulation seasonally (typically April through August, though it varies year to year). During high-sargassum periods the beach experience is significantly diminished — smell, appearance, and reduced swimmability. This is not unique to Desire Pearl; it affects the entire stretch of coastline. Check current sargassum conditions before booking and factor this into your season selection.
Practical context: 96 rooms all-inclusive for couples 21+. Rate covers all dining, premium alcohol, non-motorized water sports, fitness center, yoga, pilates, aqua aerobics, hydrotherapy circuit at Allure Spa, and all daily and nightly entertainment. Spa treatments cost extra. Room service is included but carries a $10 USD service charge except for penthouse and premier-tier guests. Cancun International Airport (CUN) is 19–25 km, approximately 20–25 minutes — an unusually short transfer for a Riviera Maya property. Politely decline timeshare presentations if not interested; they are persistent.
