Most all-inclusives sit on a flat beachfront and look out at the water. Delta Hotels Riviera Nayarit sits on a jungle hillside and looks down at the Bay of Banderas — a fundamentally different experience. The tradeoff is that you do not step off the beach onto your resort: the beach is at Tonati Beach Club, a 10–15 minute complimentary shuttle ride away in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle. For guests who spend most of their day at the pools, this doesn't matter. For guests who want sand-and-surf as their primary activity, it's worth understanding upfront.
The property opened in August 2021 as a conversion of the former Grand Matlali Hills Resort, and expanded in May 2025 with the Zafiro tower (adding rooms and the adults-only infinity pool). At 17 pools — 10 main pools, 5 adult jacuzzis, a lazy river, a water park with slides, and a kids-specific area — the aquatic footprint is the property's primary draw. A guest can spend a full week without leaving the hillside, rotating through the pool complex, the Tzicuri Spa, the Komorebi Teppanyaki dinner, and the nightly outdoor movies.
The honest drawback is the golf cart dependency. The hillside layout means guests who can't or won't walk steep inclines rely on golf cart transportation to move around the property, and waits happen, especially during peak morning and evening hours. This is not disclosed clearly enough at booking. Additionally, the Carbon Steel adults-only outdoor fire cooking venue (added in 2025) charges extra even though the rest of dining is included — a friction point worth noting.
Practical context: 212 rooms ranging from 350 sq ft standard rooms to 800 sq ft Master Suites. All rooms have private balconies with mountain views; the Deluxe Bay View category adds Banderas Bay sightlines. The all-inclusive covers all restaurant meals (except Carbon Steel surcharge), national-brand alcohol, 24-hour fitness center, yoga classes, water park and pool access, Delta Kids Club, and shuttle to Tonati Beach Club. Marriott Bonvoy members can earn and redeem points. PVR airport is 18–24 km, 30–39 minutes — one of the shorter transfers in the Riviera Nayarit.
The property is pet-friendly in the Zafiro tower (nominal fee applies) — the first Marriott International all-inclusive in Mexico to offer this. Whale watching from La Cruz Marina runs December–March at extra cost. The Tonati Beach Club food quality is consistently rated better than the main buffet — plan at least two or three full days there.
