Overview

The reef access is what Cozumel Palace leads with, and it earns the positioning. The hotel sits on Cozumel's western shore where the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef begins immediately offshore — guests can snorkel directly from the beach without a boat. For divers, the dive operation has its own immersion pool for practice and direct reef access for certified divers. No other Palace Resort offers this dive-centric setup. This is the correct property for guests whose primary reason to visit Cozumel is the underwater life.

The 2024 $15 million renovation updated the lobby, pool, spa, fitness center, restaurants, and added new suite categories. For a property originally built in 1988, this is a meaningful refresh. Post-renovation reviews are generally positive on the updated infrastructure. All 169 rooms have ocean views, double whirlpool tubs, and private balconies — the whirlpool is in-room, not shared, which is an unusual inclusion at this category.

The family program is genuine: The Dreamery kids' club runs 4-12 year olds daily (10am-4:30pm and 7:30-9:30pm), and some room categories include Kids & Teens Free rates. The resort also offers complimentary access to sister Palace Resorts in Cancún — a cross-resort benefit that effectively doubles your restaurant and entertainment options if you're splitting time between Cozumel and the Riviera Maya.

The beach is the honest caveat: it's man-made and small, which is true of most Cozumel west-coast hotels where the seafloor transitions quickly to reef. The reef access is the trade — if you want a wide natural beach, Cozumel is not the right island. If you want reef access, the trade-off is worth it. Cozumel International Airport (CZM) is 4-10 minutes away.

Pros

  • +Every room has an ocean view and an in-room double whirlpool tub — both typically cost extra at comparable all-inclusives
  • +Reef snorkeling directly from the beach without a boat transfer is the clearest practical advantage over mainland Riviera Maya properties
  • +The $15M 2024 renovation is recent enough that the infrastructure feels current rather than dated
  • +Agra's North Indian menu (Wednesday and Saturday) is genuinely uncommon at a Caribbean all-inclusive — the Murgh Tikka Masala earns specific positive mentions in reviews

Cons

  • −The beach is man-made and small — guests expecting broad white sand should choose a different property or a different island
  • −Agra (North Indian) runs only two nights per week — if this is the dinner you most want, your scheduling flexibility around it is limited

Tips

  • Reserve Agra immediately on arrival for your preferred Wednesday or Saturday night — it's the most distinctive dinner option and runs only twice per week
  • If you plan to dive, ask at check-in about the current dive schedule and immersion pool access — the schedule varies by certification level and group size
  • The sister Palace Resort access to Cancún properties is most useful if you're staying multiple days and want variety — it requires organizing your own transport but the dining access is complimentary
  • Snorkeling gear is available from the beach area; go in the morning when visibility is best and marine activity is highest
