The Finolhu Villas is Club Med's high-end adults offering in the Maldives: 52 villas on Gasfinolhu Island, each with a private plunge pool and dedicated butler service, designed almost entirely around couples and honeymooners. It's adults-only in emphasis if not entirely by rule — Overwater Villas require guests to be 18+, while Sunrise Beach Villas allow guests 12+ and Sunset Beach Villas allow guests 8+. There are no kids' clubs, no children's programming, and no organized family activities. If that's not immediately clear when booking, it will be obvious on arrival.
The property's most concrete differentiator is its sustainability infrastructure: it runs on 100% solar power, the first resort in the Maldives to do so. Beyond that, the all-inclusive here functions differently than standard Club Med: the package covers The Motu Restaurant (buffet by day, fine dining à la carte at night), in-villa butler service including butler-prepared floating breakfasts in the private pool, and access to Club Med Kani next door — which adds three restaurants and three bars to the available dining options. The speedboat ride between Finolhu and Kani is included and takes a few minutes.
The honest constraint is space. Gasfinolhu is a small island, and 52 villas on it means the property feels intimate but not expansive. Guests looking for long beach walks or variety within the immediate footprint will run out of island quickly. The beach on the villa side is powder-sand and genuinely beautiful, but it's compact. The Overwater Villas are strictly for adults (18+), which is worth knowing if you're traveling with anyone under that age.
Practically: the speedboat transfer from Velana International Airport (MLE) takes 30–40 minutes and costs extra unless included in your package — confirm at booking. The resort opened and was last renovated in 2015. The overall rate positions this in the upper tier of Club Med pricing, comparable to other Exclusive Collection Maldives properties. No children's clubs exist here; for families wanting Maldives access with Club Med structure, Club Med Kani is the family-appropriate alternative.
Best season is November through April (dry season). The Maldives' wet season (May–October) brings more rain and rougher seas, though the lagoon at Gasfinolhu is usually calm. Book the Kandu Restaurant at Kani well in advance — the lobster menu is the most requested item in the dining program.
