Social Atmosphere

Sand Fly Nuisance

Inconsistent Room Quality
While some rooms are updated, many are described as basic or needing refreshment, with occasional reports of older fixtures or dampness.
Limited Young Child Suitability

San Salvador Island has one of the most storied diving histories in the Caribbean — Columbus landed here in 1492, and the walls, blue holes, and reef drop-offs that characterize the dive sites are what serious divers cite when they choose this destination over Nassau or the Exumas. Club Med Columbus Isle is the primary all-inclusive on the island, and its proximity to these dive sites is the single clearest reason to choose it. The resort's dive operation connects guests with instructor-led dives at multiple sites; this is not resort snorkeling retrofitted as diving.
The resort suits underwater enthusiasts, couples seeking genuine remoteness, and older families (the teen programs are solid; there's no Mini Club for young children). It's a poor fit for guests who want nightlife, a lively hotel zone, or children under 11 — there are no kids' club programs for young children, and San Salvador itself is remote enough that off-resort activity is limited.
The honest constraint is that remoteness cuts both ways. San Salvador Airport (ZSA) is 5 minutes from the resort — the easiest transfer in the Bahamas — but flights to ZSA are limited, typically requiring connection through Nassau. If your connection is disrupted, you're stuck, and weather disruptions are not uncommon in the Caribbean. The resort itself reopened in October 2023 after renovation; some rooms are significantly improved while others still draw mixed comments — the standard is more consistent now than pre-2023 but review variance remains.
The property has 236 rooms in colonial-style two-story bungalows. Bonefish Bay Beach is a legitimate mile-long white sand beach with calm turquoise water — one of the better beach situations in the Club Med portfolio. The main pool is a single infinity pool, heated December to January.
