Catalonia Bayahibe sits on Dominicus Beach in Bayahibe — a stretch of coast that draws a specific comparison from guests who have visited Punta Cana properties: the water here is calmer, clearer, and far less affected by sargassum than Bávaro Beach. That beach quality is the resort's strongest selling point. The 2023 renovation refreshed the property after its 2009 opening, and the village-style Caribbean layout creates a more intimate feel than the large tower resorts to the east.
La Romana International Airport is about 20 minutes away — one of the shortest transfers for any Dominican Republic all-inclusive. Saona Island, one of the best day trips in the country, departs from nearby Bayahibe harbor and is easily booked through the concierge. Los Haitises National Park is also accessible from here.
Food is the most consistent complaint. Both buffet and à la carte restaurants are criticized for quality and variety, and the à la carte reservation process is poorly managed — spots fill fast and the system for booking them is described as confusing and frustrating. Standard rooms draw complaints about dated AC systems and slow repairs. The gap between standard and Privileged tier rooms is significant: Privileged adds room service (standard rooms have none), exclusive beach areas, and better room finishes.
The animation team consistently receives strong reviews and is a genuine daily-activity strength. Evening entertainment is lively. The beach — calm, clear, and reportedly free of the seaweed problems that affect much of Bávaro — remains the property's main reason to book.
