Adults-Only Vibe & Tranquility
Guests consistently praise the peaceful, relaxed, and mature atmosphere, which is free from the noise of children. This serene environment is a primary reason many choose this resort.
Stunning Rooms & Private Hot Tubs
The spacious, modern, and impeccably clean rooms, especially those with ocean views and private hot tubs on the balcony, are a standout feature. Guests highly value these amenities for relaxation and romance.
Access to Barceló Maya Grand Resort
The ability to utilize the pools, beaches, and restaurants of the entire larger Barceló Maya Grand Resort complex provides immense variety. This extensive access significantly enhances the overall value and guest experience.
Massive & Uncrowded Pools
The main infinity pool is frequently lauded for its impressive size, beauty, and the consistent availability of loungers. Guests appreciate the quiet ambiance and ample space, making for a truly relaxing experience.
Quality À La Carte Dining
Specific restaurants such as Sapporo Nikkei, Dolce Vita, and Agave are highly praised for their delicious food, excellent presentation, and inviting ambiance. These options consistently exceed typical all-inclusive dining expectations.
Service Inconsistencies
While staff are generally friendly, guests caution about slow service at the front desk and difficulties securing dinner reservations. Inconsistent poolside service is also noted, which can be frustrating for a 5-star resort.
Buffet Food Quality
Guests advise managing expectations for the main buffet, noting that while extensive, it might not always impress in terms of flavor or warmth. It is often considered decent but not outstanding compared to the à la carte options.
Extra Costs for Room Service/Premium
Guests should be aware that room service incurs an additional charge unless they have a Premium Level booking. This can be an unexpected cost for those on a standard all-inclusive package.
Potential for Crowds (Conventions)
Due to its large size and convention facilities, the resort can experience periods of higher occupancy and crowding. This might occasionally detract from the desired tranquil adults-only atmosphere for some guests.
Room Temperature Control
Some guests have reported issues with the air conditioning not being able to cool the rooms sufficiently. This can lead to humid and uncomfortable conditions, particularly during warmer months.

Barceló Maya Riviera Adults Only occupies the position in the Grand Resort complex that the other five properties can't offer: a 2019-built adults-only environment with modern design, no children, and 850 rooms where 110 have private pools. The main infinity pool, described in multiple reviews as the largest in Riviera Maya, overlooks the Caribbean Sea with in-pool sun loungers and two pool bars including a live DJ setup. This is the resort that couples who found the family-heavy atmosphere at the other Grand Resort properties too loud have been asking for.
The restaurant lineup is also more distinctive than elsewhere in the complex: Sapporo (Nikkei — Japanese-Peruvian fusion, Teppanyaki, and Robatayaki), Dolce Vita (Italian), La Comedie (French), and Agave (Mexican with an authentic taco bar) give four genuinely different specialty restaurant nights. The standard complex access rules apply — all guests can reach dining and facilities at Beach, Caribe, Colonial, Palace, and Tropical — but Riviera's own specialty restaurants are strong enough that you may not need to leave the property.
Every room has a hot tub on the balcony or terrace — including the entry-level Junior Suite (495 sq ft). Over 500 rooms have sea views. The swim-up suite category (both Junior and Governor tiers) provides direct private pool access, and the Governor Suite (1,097 sq ft) and Presidential Suite (1,560 sq ft) represent the apex of adults-only accommodation in the five-hotel system.
The honest problems: front desk service has received 'slow and unaccommodating' reviews. Dinner reservations despite visibly available tables is a recurring complaint — Premium Level concierge handles this significantly better. Room temperature regulation (humid and hot even with AC) comes up in multiple reviews. And the buffet food at Miramar is described as decent but not outstanding.
Cancún Airport (CUN) is 78 km, approximately 50-90 minutes. The resort is part of the Xpu-Ha section of the complex.
