Exceptional Beach Experience
The resort's private, expansive beach is a major highlight, consistently praised for its soft sand, clear water perfect for swimming, and opportunities for excellent snorkeling with sea turtles directly offshore.
Impeccable Cleanliness
Guests consistently commend the meticulous upkeep and spotless condition of the entire five-resort complex, including rooms, pools, and public areas, maintained by diligent staff.
Extensive Resort Access
The 'stay at one, enjoy five' policy is highly valued, allowing guests extensive access to the pools, beaches, restaurants, and bars of the larger Barceló Maya Grand Resort complex.
Family-Friendly Amenities
The resort offers a fantastic array of amenities and activities catering to all ages, including dedicated water parks, kids' clubs, and thoughtful family room touches like Xbox consoles.
Quality À La Carte Dining
Specialty restaurants, particularly the Brazilian steakhouse and French Brasserie, receive strong praise for their inviting ambiance, high-quality food, and attentive service.
À La Carte Booking Challenges
Guests frequently report significant difficulties in securing reservations at specialty restaurants, often requiring immediate booking upon arrival and facing limited availability for popular spots.
Limited Pool/Beach Loungers
A common frustration is the scarcity of available loungers by the pool and on the beach, as many guests reserve them early in the morning despite resort policies against this practice.
Inconsistent Buffet Quality
While offering variety, the quality of buffet food is often described as mediocre, inconsistent, or not always served at optimal temperature, particularly when compared to the superior à la carte options.
High On-Site Costs
Guests caution about the very high prices for essential items in on-site shops, such as sunscreen, and for resort-arranged transportation services, which are significantly more expensive than external options.
Large Resort Navigation
The massive scale of the complex can be challenging to navigate for some, especially seniors or those preferring smaller resorts, and initial information about the extensive layout may be limited upon arrival.

Barceló Maya Palace is the top-tier property in the Barceló Maya Grand Resort system — and the only section where all 756 rooms are suites, beginning at 484 sq ft. The Moorish architectural design (arched corridors, ornate tile work, a visual language distinct from the more generic beach-resort aesthetic of the sister hotels) and partial 2023-2024 renovation of rooms, air conditioning, and pool areas make this the most visually coherent accommodation in the complex.
Guests at Palace access the entire five-resort system, including Beach, Caribe, Colonial, and Tropical — the same deal as the other hotels but with an important addition: Premium Level suite guests at Palace also access a sixth property, Barceló Maya Riviera Adults Only, giving them the largest facility reach in the complex.
The dining program at Palace is better differentiated than elsewhere in the complex: Brasserie (French), Caribe (Caribbean/seafood), and Rodizio (Brazilian churrasco) are the three specialty restaurants, joined by Mirador Buffet with panoramic sea views and La Hacienda Buffet with Mexican-ranch décor. The Rodizio Brazilian steakhouse format — tableside meat service with a full salad bar — is the specialty restaurant that Palace guests most frequently request.
The practical limitations that apply across the complex apply here too: specialty restaurant reservations fill on arrival day and require immediate booking. Beach and pool loungers are reserved with towels by early morning in peak season. The 90-minute drive from Cancún Airport (CUN) is the longest transfer of any Barceló Maya property. And the resort's scale (five connected hotels) means a 20-minute walk to reach the furthest-point facilities.
Room condition is the standout strength: recent review data from 2023-2025 consistently cites rooms as spacious, comfortable, and well-maintained. The Presidential Suite (1,937 sq ft, panoramic ocean views, private terrace hot tub) is the apex of accommodations in the entire five-hotel complex.
