The hotel maintains high cleanliness throughout, with spotless rooms and well-maintained public areas, which is greatly appreciated by guests.
Pool Facilities
The outdoor pools, including a children's pool with slides, and a heated indoor pool, are considered strong amenities for relaxation and fun, especially for families.
Cold Pool Temperatures
Many guests frequently note that the outdoor, children's, and even Jacuzzi pools are often too cold for comfortable swimming, impacting enjoyment.
Alcoholic Beverage Quality
The all-inclusive alcoholic drinks, particularly spirits, cocktails, and house wine, are a common source of disappointment due to low quality or excessive sweetness.
Extra Beach Costs
Guests are often surprised that sunbeds and umbrellas on the actual beach are not included in the all-inclusive package and require an additional payment.
Crowded Dining Areas
During peak meal times, dining areas can become very busy, sometimes leading to difficulties in finding available seating and a less relaxed experience.
Spa & Kids' Club Value
Some guests find the spa treatment prices excessive, and the kids' club's activities are occasionally described as minimal or lacking engaging options.

Alua Helios Bay sits directly on one of Bulgaria's longest sandy beaches in Obzor — a Black Sea town with a quieter atmosphere than Sunny Beach — giving the resort immediate access to rock-free swimming without the crowded resort-strip feel of Bulgaria's larger coastal developments. Burgas Airport (BOJ) is approximately one hour by car; Varna Airport (VAR) is about two and a half hours by bus.
The My Favorite Club tier is the clearest differentiator within the Alua brand at this property. MFC guests get a rooftop pool (Fresco Pool Bar swim-up area), the Vertigo Sky Bar, access to a private sun terrace, personalized check-in, early/late check-out where available, Nespresso machines, upgraded toiletries, complimentary in-room safes, and a welcome mini-bar. The rooftop pool and Sky Bar are not available to standard guests — which makes the MFC upgrade more meaningful here than at properties where the tier is purely cosmetic.
The main pool complex includes water slides, which appeals to families — the property caters to both families and couples, so the atmosphere is not adults-only and the animation program runs accordingly. Four restaurants and six bars cover most food and beverage needs without leaving the property. The specialty restaurants (Emona for local cuisine, Jojo for international dining) provide alternatives to the Terra main buffet.
The honest drawback: Bulgaria is not the Mediterranean. The Black Sea is warmer than the North Sea but cooler than Greece or Turkey, and Obzor's relatively undeveloped setting is an asset for some guests and a disadvantage for those expecting resort-town infrastructure nearby. Most guests who like the property appreciate exactly this — it's less crowded and less commercial than Sunny Beach.
Opened 2005, major renovation 2017. 318 rooms. Best for families and couples who want beach-forward value and are willing to trade Mediterranean glamour for a quieter, less expensive Black Sea option.
