This Longtime Punta Cana All-Inclusive Is Going Dark Until November — for a $35 Million Reason

Majestic Colonial Punta Cana, one of the destination's longest-running family all-inclusives, is in the middle of a $35 million renovation and won't welcome guests again until November 12, 2026. The overhaul, which began in April, touches nearly every corner of the resort — and adds a headline attraction aimed squarely at families: a new all-ages water park.

Every room category is being fully renovated, including brand-new bathrooms, and the property is introducing a new Family Suites category for travelers who need more space. When it reopens, the resort will offer 636 guest rooms in total.

Dining is expanding too. A new Italian restaurant with an al fresco terrace joins the lineup, and the Supreme International Buffet is getting a full renovation. Resort-wide, the fitness center is being rebuilt and every pool deck across the property is being redone.

The investment underscores how much pressure established resorts in Punta Cana face from newer arrivals. The Dominican Republic has seen a steady stream of large-scale openings, and a mid-life refresh with a water park and modernized suites is a direct bid to keep families choosing a familiar name over the shiny new options next door.

It also rounds out the Majestic Resorts presence in the area, where sister properties Majestic Elegance Punta Cana and Majestic Mirage anchor the brand's Bavaro strip. Guests holding fall bookings will want to confirm dates, since the doors stay closed through the first half of November.
