Wyndham Alltra Playa del Carmen is the Alltra brand's flagship — opened April 2022, purpose-built as adults-only, and positioned a short walk from Fifth Avenue, Playa's main pedestrian shopping and restaurant strip. That proximity is the defining feature of the location: you're not trapped in a resort compound. Restaurants, clubs, and shops are accessible on foot, which changes the calculus if you'd want evenings outside the property.
Six restaurants and five bars are included. The culinary program gets consistently good marks for quality relative to its all-inclusive category. The Italian and Mexican specialty restaurants and the sushi bar are the guest favorites. The main buffet (Ventanas) has Caribbean sea views.
The beach situation needs honest disclosure: the immediate beachfront is rocky, and seasonal sargassum seaweed accumulates along much of the Riviera Maya coast. The resort has a private beach section with its own bar, but the swim-and-snorkel experience is more variable here than at properties with naturally protected white-sand beaches. The two pools — an oceanfront pool and a rooftop pool with hot tub — are the more reliable aquatic options for most guests.
The Green Globe Certification is genuine sustainability credentialing. For travelers who prioritize environmental commitments in their accommodation choices, it's a meaningful distinction. For travelers who don't, it doesn't affect the guest experience either way.
