Viva Heavens made a significant pivot in May 2023, converting from an adults-only boutique to a family-friendly resort and adding the 'All Together' suite category alongside a dedicated Kids' Club. This means the property is in transition — some guests who booked expecting the adults-only atmosphere now share facilities with families, and the family infrastructure (Kids' Club staffing, pool supervision) is newer and still calibrating.
The 190-room property sits within the secure, gated Playa Dorada complex in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic — about 15 minutes from Gregorio Luperón International Airport. Playa Dorada is a planned resort zone on the north coast with its own golf course, shopping plaza, and 13 hotel properties sharing a shared beach. Within this context, Viva Heavens occupies the more design-forward end of the Playa Dorada options, with five specialty restaurants (more than any comparable property in the complex), reliable WiFi throughout, and generally strong reviews for food quality.
The honest complaint is bathroom condition. Across multiple review sources, guests describe bathrooms showing signs of age — moisture problems, missing exhaust fans, slow drains. The Bliss Room at 221 sq ft is genuinely small. If room condition and size matter significantly, book the Amnesia Junior Suite or the All Together Room for more space.
Practically: 190 rooms and suites, all-inclusive includes unlimited meals and domestic beverages, WiFi, and most activities. The 'Stay at 1, Play at 2' exchange with Viva Tangerine in Cabarete (20+ minutes away) requires your own transport — account for this before treating it as a dining option.
