The former Almenara Golf Resort in Sotogrande was completely transformed and relaunched as SO/ Sotogrande in July 2021. The result is one of the few all-inclusive properties in mainland Europe — and one of the very few to integrate full golf access (multiple courses adjacent to the property), a serious medical-grade wellness spa, and a legitimately good restaurant (Cortijo Santa María 1962 by Nicolas Isnard, a Michelin-recognized chef) under a single all-inclusive rate.
The all-inclusive concept here is meaningfully different from Caribbean beach resorts. This is a golf and wellness destination. The Sotogrande area has some of the best courses in southern Spain, including Valderrama (host of the 1997 Ryder Cup). Spa treatments are science-backed, including cryotherapy, flotation therapy, and oxygen therapy — facilities you'd find at dedicated medical wellness centers. If you're traveling to play golf and recover properly, or to combine serious wellness with a luxury hotel base, SO/ Sotogrande has a case.
The beach situation requires a clarification: the all-inclusive includes access to The Beach at La Reserva Club, a man-made beach club about a short drive from the hotel. It's genuinely good — a crystal-clear lagoon, sun loungers, and a pool — but it's not a natural seaside beach and requires a transfer. The nearest natural beach (Sotogrande Beach) is about 10 minutes away. Some guests expecting a traditional beach holiday are surprised by this.
At 152 rooms, this is a relatively intimate property by resort standards. The Andalusian setting — rolling hills, cork oak forests, whitewashed architecture — is genuinely beautiful and nothing like a Caribbean or Mexican all-inclusive. The location is 24 km from Gibraltar International Airport, about 20–35 minutes' drive. Gibraltar and Ronda are worthwhile day trips. The guest profile skews toward adults: golfers, wellness-focused travelers, and design-conscious European couples. Families are accommodated but the property is not optimized for children.
