The $36 million renovation that reopened Secrets Royal Beach Punta Cana in November 2020 wasn't cosmetic. It added 90 rooms, two pools, and multiple new dining options — the property that exists now is substantially different from what was there before. Guests staying pre-renovation should recalibrate expectations, and guests comparing it to other Punta Cana all-inclusives should factor in the infrastructure investment.
The dual-property setup is the primary structural advantage: free-flow access to the adjacent Dreams Royal Beach means the combined dining inventory includes 12-plus restaurants, several pools, and entertainment across both properties. The Preferred Club lazy river pool at Secrets — unusual infrastructure for an all-inclusive — is the most distinctive pool feature in Punta Cana. The "Sip, Savor & See" dine-around program at Dreams expands the evening dining variety significantly.
Bávaro Beach is as good as Punta Cana gets for a main-corridor hotel: calm, turquoise, wide, with consistent upkeep. Sargassum can arrive seasonally, and like every Bávaro property, the resort manages it daily but can't eliminate it entirely. Beach vendors are occasionally present — a consistent complaint in reviews. At 639 suites it's a large property, and the main pool can reach capacity during peak season in the late morning.
