The thing that sets Secrets Playa Esmeralda apart from every other Secrets property in the Caribbean is its location: Miches, on the DR's northeastern coast, is genuinely remote. You're looking at 1.5-2 hours from Punta Cana International Airport. That's a long transfer by Caribbean all-inclusive standards, and it's the primary reason most guests considering Punta Cana will choose one of the properties near the airport instead. But if the remoteness is the point — fewer visitors, undeveloped surroundings, a secluded ocean cove rather than a developed beachfront — then this property delivers.
Miches and the Playa Esmeralda coastline have received significant development attention in recent years precisely because the beaches are exceptional: pristine, quiet, with minimal sargassum compared to the more popular Punta Cana beaches. The resort opened in April 2025 in a natural cove setting with an eco-conscious design philosophy — materials and architecture designed to complement rather than clash with the surroundings.
This is the right choice for couples who want an adults-only Dominican Republic all-inclusive that feels genuinely off the beaten path. The adjacent Dreams Playa Esmeralda is family-friendly and Secrets guests have full access to its facilities, including a water park — unusual for an adults-only property. At 500 rooms with 11 restaurants, it's a well-equipped property despite the remote location. Three pools plus a Preferred Club pool. New in 2025, so operational calibration may still be in progress for some services.
