The defining feature of Secrets Huatulco is its location: Conejos Bay sits within a designated national park on Mexico's Pacific coast, which means development around the resort is limited and the landscape stays green and largely undisturbed. Every one of the 399 suites faces the ocean — not some suites, all of them — which is a structural advantage that most all-inclusives with "ocean view available" can't match. The property joined Hyatt's portfolio in 2022 and received updated room furnishings in 2023, which freshened up what was beginning to show its age from the 2011 opening.
Huatulco as a destination skews quieter and less international than Cancun or Riviera Maya. The airport serves fewer direct flights, the town is small, and there's no strip of nightclubs nearby. For guests who actively want a low-traffic destination, that's the point. For guests expecting Cancun-style amenities and activity density within taxi range, it will feel limiting.
The bay itself is calm and genuinely swimmable most of the time — the protected cove geometry reduces wave action significantly compared to open Pacific coastline. Kayaking and snorkeling directly from the beach work well here. However, a strong rip tide occasionally affects some beach areas; the resort staff flags this clearly and safe swimming zones are marked.
Food quality gets mixed signals in reviews — the variety is solid across 7 restaurants, but cooking consistency doesn't always match the setting's premium feel. Desserts specifically are called out as a recurring weak point. And the Preferred Club upgrade generates debate: the baseline suite experience is comfortable enough that the incremental benefits don't feel essential unless you specifically want the dedicated pool or butler-level service.
