Beach Seaweed Presence
Occasional seaweed on Juanillo Beach is a recurring concern, though the resort actively works to clean it and mitigate its impact with a barrier.
Food & Beverage Value
While dining is generally good, some guests feel the food and alcohol quality might not fully justify the resort's premium price point compared to similar luxury resorts.
Spa Facility Access
Unlike some luxury properties, access to certain spa facilities, such as hydrotherapy areas, may incur additional charges for guests not receiving scheduled treatments.
Couples-Focused Environment
The resort's strong emphasis on a romantic ambiance and couple-centric offerings might make it less suitable for adult group trips not specifically seeking a romantic getaway.

Preferred by Nature
Secrets Cap Cana sits on Juanillo Beach — a stretch of white sand inside Cap Cana's private, gated development on the eastern tip of the Dominican Republic. The location is meaningful: Cap Cana is a planned resort community that keeps the surrounding area controlled and quiet, which is part of why the beach here feels uncrowded compared to other Punta Cana properties. The resort itself opened in 2016 and holds a AAA Five Diamond designation, which the brand applies selectively across its Secrets portfolio.
The property runs on Secrets' Unlimited-Luxury model — meals, drinks, and most activities are included without wristbands or reservation requirements for its 8 restaurants. That no-reservation policy is a practical convenience that most adults-only all-inclusives don't maintain at this size. It works here partly because the resort skews romantic and quiet rather than high-energy party; guests aren't all trying to eat at the same restaurant at the same time.
A few honest caveats: sargassum seaweed is an occasional presence on Juanillo Beach, which the resort manages through daily cleaning but can't eliminate entirely. Some guests find the food quality doesn't fully justify the price premium relative to comparable properties in the Punta Cana corridor. And the marketing leans heavily into romance — the "welcome home" theming and constant couples-focused framing can feel repetitive if you're here for a non-romantic trip.
Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) is 14 to 20 minutes away — one of the shorter transfers in the Caribbean all-inclusive market. Preferred Club adds a private lounge, upgraded amenities, and dedicated concierge, but several reviewers question whether the upgrade cost is justified at this property compared to what you get at the base level.
