Unrivaled Dining & Amenities
The 'Stay at One, Play at Two' program is consistently praised, offering an extraordinary combined total of 21 restaurants and 14 bars across two luxurious resorts, ensuring vast culinary choices and activities.
Innovative Resort Features
Guests love the unique 'Sandals Firsts,' including the Caribbean's first rooftop infinity pool with a bar, the engaging four-lane bowling alley, and the charming gourmet donut shop, adding a playful luxury to their stay.
Luxurious Accommodations
The resort's all-suite design, particularly the SkyPool and Swim-up suites featuring Tranquility Soaking Tubs, receives high acclaim for its modern luxury, spaciousness, and overall comfort.
Beautiful Beachfront Setting
Maxwell Beach's spectacular white sands and calm, blue waters are a significant draw for guests, complemented by the resort's meticulously maintained gardens and diverse pool options.
Dedicated & Friendly Staff
The staff are frequently commended for their warm, friendly, and accommodating demeanor, with the personalized attention from butler service often highlighted as exceptional.
Dining & Bar Service Speed
While food variety is excellent, guests occasionally report slow service at restaurants and bars, which can sometimes impact the overall dining and drinking experience.
Sunbed Availability
Securing preferred lounge chairs by the pools or on the beach can be challenging, as popular spots are often reserved early in the morning by other guests.
Beach Vendor Interaction
As Maxwell Beach is a public area, guests may encounter persistent local vendors, which some find disruptive to their relaxation and privacy.
Bed Comfort
A recurring minor complaint is that some guests find the beds uncomfortable, which can affect sleep quality despite the luxurious design of the suites.
External Noise
Some reviews mention occasional noise disturbances originating from outside the resort, such as barking dogs, particularly for rooms situated in certain directions.

Sandals Royal Barbados opened in December 2017 as Sandals' most design-forward property at the time, and its rooftop infinity pool — the first of its kind in the Caribbean — remains the most photographed amenity on the property. The pool sits atop the main building with direct ocean views, and the adjacent rooftop bar creates an evening experience unavailable at most other Sandals locations. The same innovative instinct produced a four-lane bowling alley (Lovers Lanes), a craft beer bar, and a gourmet donut shop — novelties that either appeal to you or don't, but they signal a resort that's deliberately different.
This resort suits couples who want all-suite accommodations, a strong pool scene, and the operational breadth that comes from the 'Stay at One, Play at Two' program with neighboring Sandals Barbados. Combined access means roughly 20–21 restaurants and 10+ bars. Guests who want a quiet, small-scale property should look at St. Lucia instead — Royal Barbados is a larger, more activity-focused operation.
The honest friction point here is chair competition. Maxwell Beach is a public beach, and the lounge chair situation at the pools requires early positioning. Persistent vendors on the public beach is also a cited guest complaint. These aren't unique problems but they're consistent enough to plan around.
Maxwell Beach has calm, clear water well-suited for swimming. The 15-minute transfer from Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI) means almost no post-flight travel. The 2021 South Seas Village expansion brought 66 additional suites including the Rondoval suite format and the most private pool configurations at the property.
