Royalton Saint Lucia occupies Smugglers Cove, a small protected bay in Gros Islet that produces calmer swimming conditions than the Atlantic side of the island. This is a meaningful advantage — Saint Lucia's northern beaches can have strong surf, but Smugglers Cove typically doesn't. The resort opened in 2017 with partial renovations scheduled for August through December 2025.
The adults-only Hideaway section and an on-site casino (Casino del Mar) give Royalton Saint Lucia a profile different from the two Sandals properties nearby (Halcyon Beach and Grande St. Lucian). Sandals targets the luxury couples market; Royalton runs mixed-demographic with families, couples, and groups all on the same property. If you want full luxury immersion for a honeymoon, Sandals Grande St. Lucian is the better option. If you want a kids-friendly resort with an adults section available, Royalton is the more practical choice.
At 290 suites, the property is mid-sized and manageable — not as sprawling as the 840-room Riviera Cancun equivalent. The Diamond Club tier and Hideaway section each have their own pools and beach sections. George F.L. Charles Airport in Castries is 16–35 minutes away; Hewanorra International in the south is about 90 minutes — most guests fly into GFL for this resort.
The honest drawback is the partially hilly terrain and layout: the resort is not flat, and moving between sections can involve stairs or slopes. Guests with mobility limitations or anyone dragging beach gear should check the specific section layout before booking. Some rooms are farther from the beach than the site maps suggest. The food program is consistent Royalton brand — solid buffet, multiple specialty restaurants, reservation-free except for Zen and C/X.
