At 840 rooms, Royalton Riviera Cancun is one of the larger all-inclusives in the Riviera Cancun (Puerto Morelos) corridor, and its scale means it has the amenities to match: 13+ restaurants, a casino, a splash park for kids, and a dedicated adults-only Hideaway section. The property closed for renovations and reopened December 7, 2025 with refreshed guest rooms and public spaces — meaning you're getting updated finishes across the board.
The casino is the most unusual amenity for an all-inclusive in this location. Casino del Mar operates on-site and guests can access it as part of their stay. For groups where some members want to gamble while others prefer the beach, this resolves the typical logistical problem of organizing an off-site casino trip. The Hideaway section functions similarly to Royalton Negril's — adults-only (18+) with its own pool, beach area, and dedicated lounge.
The main weakness at Royalton Riviera Cancun is its size. With 840 rooms, you're looking at large crowds at the main pool and buffet, and the resort can feel impersonal. Specialty restaurant reservations — particularly Zen teppanyaki — are competitive. The sprawl also means walking distances between sections are real. Families with small children who prefer manageable scale will find 400-room properties less exhausting.
The beach at Riviera Cancun (Puerto Morelos) is generally good — calmer and less rocky than parts of the Hotel Zone — but the reef close to shore can limit how far out you can swim without fins. Snorkeling directly off the beach is actually decent here, which is rare for an all-inclusive beach. The resort is 16 km from Cancun Airport, putting it among the shortest transfers in the area. For families who want a large resort with lots of contained options, the recent renovation and the casino-plus-Hideaway combination make Royalton Riviera Cancun a reasonable choice. Couples seeking a quiet, intimate setting should look elsewhere on this coast.
