Biosphere Certification
Ocean Maya Royale has one concrete advantage over most of its Playa del Carmen competitors: four distinct à la carte restaurants are included every night at no upcharge, no reservation required. Yookoso does live teppanyaki tableside. El Charro doubles as a poolside snack spot by day and a Mexican seafood restaurant at night, with churros and warm chocolate as a late-order staple. Dolce Vita faces the beach. Blue Moon runs the romantic-dinner angle with international cuisine and a smart-casual door policy. It is a lot of genuine choice for an all-inclusive at this price tier.
The resort works well for couples, honeymooners, and groups of adults (18+) who want beach access, meaningful dining variety, and real nightlife on property—the Sports Bar stays open until 6am. It does not work well for anyone seeking a luxury upgrade experience: the Privilege tier exists but standard rooms at 320 keys are fairly close together, and the beach has erosion barriers in places that undercut the postcard view.
Honestly: the beach is the main caveat here. The Riviera Maya coastline has struggled with sargassum and erosion at various points, and this stretch is not immune. Guests who prioritize a pristine, unobstructed sand-to-sea experience should verify current beach conditions before booking and consider whether a resort with a lagoon pool as the main draw might be a better fit.
Practically speaking, the resort is 46 km from Cancun International Airport—about 45 minutes by transfer. The 2010 renovation shows its age in some room finishes, though the bones are solid. The Despacio Spa Centre offers complimentary sauna, jacuzzi, and gym access; massage and beauty treatments are extra. The Mike's Coffee café opens at 6am if you need something before the main buffet at La Hacienda kicks in.
The Biosphere Certification is legitimate and worth noting for travelers who care about sustainable tourism credentials. It puts this property in a smaller subset of all-inclusives that have passed third-party verification.
