Ocean Casa del Mar opened in 2016 as one of the newer large all-inclusives on Cayo Santa María, Cuba's most developed tourist island located off the northern coast of Villa Clara province. The 800-room property sits on Playa Las Coloradas, which guests consistently describe as long, unspoiled, and with clear turquoise water — one of the better beaches in the Cayo Santa María corridor.
The operational differentiator here is the no-reservation-required policy at the specialty restaurants. Most all-inclusives restrict à la carte access through reservation systems that fill within hours of check-in. At Ocean Casa del Mar, all six specialty venues — Mediterranean (Boca Marina), Italian (Limoncello), Oriental (Origami), Cuban (Compay), Seafood beachfront (Neptuno), and a gourmet option — are accessible without advance booking. This changes the daily dining experience considerably, removing the day-one scramble that characterizes most comparable properties.
Fresh fish appears consistently in guest reviews as the standout dining item — a function of Cuba's seafood supply chain and the beachfront Neptuno seafood restaurant. The main buffet and the specialty restaurants operate across different buildings, and the Privilege service tier adds exclusive lounge access and à la carte breakfast.
The honest limitation is the airport transfer. Cayo Santa María is connected to the mainland by a 48km causeway, and Abel Santamaría Airport (SNU) in Santa Clara is approximately 120km away — a 90-minute to 2-hour drive. Guests flying into Varadero (VRA) will have a longer transfer. Cuba's infrastructure realities also mean that resort supply consistency, internet connectivity, and credit card reliability differ from Caribbean resorts in other countries. Cash (Canadian dollars or euros) is more practical than USD, and planning around this before arrival matters.
