Marriott Cancun, An All-Inclusive Resort, opened in its current form in September 2024 following a $70 million, year-long transformation of the property that had operated as the Marriott Cancun Resort since 1990. It holds the distinction of being Marriott International's first branded all-inclusive — a notable experiment in whether the Marriott experience translates to the all-inclusive format. The early guest reviews suggest it largely does: service quality, food variety, and physical condition are consistently praised, with the Bonvoy points integration drawing specific appreciation from loyalty program members.
The resort works for families and couples who want a contemporary, well-managed property in Cancun's Hotel Zone without surrendering the service standards they'd expect at a traditional Marriott. The 450 rooms were fully renovated in 2024 and show it — contemporary design with none of the condition issues that affect older unrenovated all-inclusives. The Camp Club by Marriott kids' program (ages 4–12) features ziplining, wall climbing, crafts, and beach walks — a more substantive activity program than a standard kids' club.
Two caveats worth flagging before booking: the property does not have its own full-service spa. Guests seeking extensive treatments are directed to the adjacent JW Marriott's Sens Yah spa, which requires walking to a neighboring property. The on-site spa has a steam room and hot tub but not a full treatment roster. Second, specialty restaurant dinner reservation availability is limited — popular venues book up quickly, and the 17-venue count includes bars and casual spots, not 17 sit-down restaurants.
The resort sits on Playa Ballenas, 15–20 minutes from Cancun International Airport. The beach is white-sand and swimmable, though some sections have a rocky entry point into the water — ask about the best swim entry spots on arrival.
