Caribbean Journal Spa of the Year

The Jewel Grande Montego Bay Resort & Spa opened September 27, 2017, converting the former Palmyra Resort & Spa condo complex into an all-inclusive property. The renovation added an 88-suite tower and extensive refurbishment, with the last major refresh in 2018. Its 217 suites and villas are apartment-style — the entry-level one-bedroom suites start around 806 sq ft and scale to 5,500 sq ft for the three-bedroom Grande Luxe Penthouse. Most categories above one bedroom include fully equipped kitchens. The property holds an AAA Four Diamond rating and is 10–15 minutes from Sangster International Airport (MBJ).
The butler service structure is worth understanding before booking. Butler service is not universal across all rooms — it activates at two-bedroom suites and above. Guests in one-bedroom suites receive standard all-inclusive service without a dedicated butler. The WhatsApp-based butler contact system is consistently praised in guest reviews for its speed and responsiveness. This makes the two-bedroom suite tier the practical minimum for guests whose primary interest is the personalized service the property markets.
The Grande Spa is 30,000 square feet across two floors, with 14 treatment rooms, dedicated couple's suites, VIP rooms, and the Himalayan Salt Lounge — the only one in Jamaica. The salt lounge uses radiant heated benches and a salt-microclimate environment said to benefit respiratory function and promote sleep. Access typically requires a booked treatment rather than standalone entry — confirm current pricing at check-in. Fitness center (LifeFitness equipment), steam bath, sauna, and jacuzzi are included without charge.
Eight restaurants cover meaningful range. WAVES (international cuisine, award-winning, colonial interior) and Pierside Restaurant (Asian fusion with teppanyaki on a pier over the Caribbean) are the dining program's highlights. Le Bouchon handles steakhouse; Moonstone handles Italian on an outdoor terrace. Cricket's Grill and the Orchids buffet cover Jamaican and international daily dining. The Fiery Pelican operates as an outdoor grill. Jam-Mex provides the Jamaican/Mexican fusion option. Two coffee shops (Ortanique and The Sugar Cane) offer café options.
The private cove beach is one of the property's primary draws — calm water and white sand in a sheltered setting. However, guest reviews consistently note sea grass and occasional murky water in sections of the beach, and umbrella availability is reported as limited. The activity pool faces the Sentry Tower and operates with a swim-up bar — guests in Sentry Tower accommodations are closest to the activity pool, kids' club, and main buffet, which is a meaningful logistical factor for families.
Kids Club (ages 3–12) and Teen Lounge (13+) operate 9 AM–5 PM daily. Nightly entertainment includes Jamaica Street on Thursdays and Flashback Party on Saturdays. The rotating Art Gallery in the Clubhouse Lobby changes every three months — an unusual cultural amenity for the all-inclusive category.
