When Hyatt took over the former Secrets Capri property in December 2022 and relaunched it as the Zilara Riviera Maya, the brand made a clear bet: fewer gimmicks, better food, and a genuinely adults-only environment. That bet mostly pays off. The resort's nine-venue dining lineup — anchored by Tempest's teppanyaki tables and Lola Beach Restaurant's wood-fired seafood — is consistently ranked among the better all-inclusive food programs in the Playa del Carmen corridor, which is a low bar in some places but is meaningfully cleared here.
This is a couples resort, full stop. There are no kids, no waterslides, no 7 a.m. chair-saving stampedes. If you're two adults who want to eat well, drink at a swim-up bar, and sleep without hearing a children's pool outside your window, Zilara Riviera Maya is a strong fit. If you're traveling with family, with a group of friends seeking a high-energy party scene, or if you need an extensive property with multiple pools and sprawling entertainment, this place will feel too small and too quiet.
The most consistent complaint in guest reviews is not the food or the rooms — it's the check-in process. Hyatt has a vacation club sales operation here, and guests report being pitched aggressively within the first hour of arrival. Some find it easy to decline; others describe it as the low point of an otherwise excellent stay. Go in knowing this, and you'll handle it fine.
The property holds 291 suites across 12 categories, ranging from 474-square-foot tropical-view junior suites to a 1,582-square-foot Presidential Suite with a private plunge pool and kitchen. Ocean Front suites come with butler service. The Cancun International Airport (CUN) is about 28 miles north — 40 to 60 minutes by car depending on traffic through Playa del Carmen. The Zen Spa charges separately for treatments but the hydrotherapy circuit is a good pre-massage option worth adding.
Rates put this in the upper tier of Riviera Maya all-inclusives — below Andaz Mayakoba or Rosewood but above the Riu and Bahia Principe properties. A useful comparison point is the Hyatt Ziva Riviera Cancun next door, which is the same parent brand but family-friendly and larger. If you've stayed there and want something quieter, this is the natural upgrade.
