Hotel Riu Vallarta sits directly on Flamingo Beach in Nuevo Vallarta — a long, swimmable stretch of white sand on the Riviera Nayarit side of Banderas Bay, about 14 minutes from the airport. The Art Deco facade is genuinely distinctive for a mass-market all-inclusive and looks more considered than the generic white boxes common in this price bracket.
Opened in 2006 and renovated in 2019, the property is family-oriented without being exhaustive about it. The RiuLand kids' club handles ages 4–12, the children's pool has slides, and the beach is calm enough for families. For adults, the five pools include a swim-up bar, and the Renova Spa has four treatment rooms including two double suites for couples — with treatments available both indoors and on the beach.
The exchange arrangement with neighboring Riu Jalisco is genuinely useful: guests get free entry and drinks at the Pacha nightclub at Riu Jalisco, which operates seven nights a week (Pacha on-property at Vallarta runs six nights). Riu Party events at Jalisco are included with transfers, expanding evening options without additional cost.
Dining covers six restaurants: Don Rafael (main buffet with live cooking stations and themed nights three times weekly), Kulinarium (gourmet à la carte, formal), Steakhouse, Nirvana (Asian buffet), Il Gusto (Italian poolside buffet), and Pepe's Food poolside grill. No reservations are required at any restaurant — it's first-come, first-served, which simplifies planning but means arriving early on busy evenings.
Practically: 678 rooms, renovation 2019, 14–15 minutes from Licenciado Gustavo Díaz Ordaz International Airport (PVR). Non-motorized watersports included: windsurfing (beginner), catamaran, kayaking, bodyboarding, snorkeling equipment. Complimentary introductory scuba lesson in the pool.
