Hotel Riu Playa Blanca opened in April 2014 on Panama's Pacific coast in the Coclé province — a destination that isn't on most traveler shortlists, which is precisely what makes it interesting. The closest airport, Scarlett Martinez International, is 10–15 minutes away. Panama City's Tocumen Airport is a 2–3 hour drive — relevant if you're combining this stay with a city leg.
The beach itself is Playa Blanca: clean white sand, reasonably calm Pacific water. The Pacific runs notably cooler than the Caribbean, especially December through March when ocean temperatures can drop. This is the single most important thing to know before booking — if warm water is essential to your trip, a Caribbean resort is a better choice. For guests who don't mind, or actively prefer, cooler ocean temperatures, the trade-off is a less-crowded beach setting than equivalent Cancun or Punta Cana properties.
This is a competent, comprehensive all-inclusive — 573 rooms, four restaurants including a well-regarded Asian specialty option, five bars with a swim-up pool bar, and the full RiuLand/RiuFit activity suite. It consistently performs above expectations for value. The drawback is scale: 573 rooms on a single property is large, and the main buffet (Balboa) gets loud and crowded at peak meal times.
Guest mix skews toward families and couples from Panama City and Colombia, making this feel more regionally local than typical Caribbean resort crowds. Cancun International is not the reference airport here — plan your transfer accordingly.
