Tripadvisor
Riu Palace Maspalomas has one specific geographical advantage that no renovation budget can replicate: it sits directly next to the Maspalomas Dunes nature reserve. Walking out the back of the hotel puts you into a protected landscape of sand dunes that end at the beach — an 800-meter route through a UNESCO-adjacent natural area that's genuinely unlike anything else on Gran Canaria's tourist strip. Guests who treat this as a daily walk rather than a resort feature are the ones who leave most satisfied.
This is a half-board property, not all-inclusive — a distinction that matters for trip planning. Half-board covers an extensive buffet breakfast with sparkling Cava included, and dinner (either the main Dunas buffet or one of two à la carte restaurants). Lunch and drinks are not included in the standard rate, which changes the budget math significantly. Anyone expecting to drink freely at poolside should factor in the bar tab. The adults-only (18+) format holds after a 2021 renovation that repositioned this as an exclusively grown-up property.
The honest drawback is the beach situation. There is no beach directly attached to the resort. The 800-meter dune walk to Playa del Inglés is beautiful but not accessible for everyone, and the beach is a public beach shared with the general tourist zone rather than a private resort beach. Guests who need immediate sand access without a walk should choose a different property.
Practically: 364 renovated rooms across room and suite categories. Half-board includes breakfast and dinner; beverages and lunch extra. Two outdoor pools, both heated in winter. Krystal (fusion) and El Oasis (Spanish) require advance booking via the RIU app. Gran Canaria airport (LPA) is 28–34 km out — roughly 30 minutes. Best season: November through April when Canary Island winters deliver reliable warm, dry days.
