TripAdvisor
The Riu Palace Bavaro that reopened in August 2024 is effectively a new resort wearing a familiar name. The renovation expanded room count from its original capacity to 994, added a food court concept bringing total F&B venues to 32, and introduced Elite Club villas with private pools. On Arena Gorda beach — consistently ranked among Punta Cana's best for soft sand and calm water — this is now the largest and most comprehensively programmed resort in Riu's Punta Cana cluster.
At 994 rooms and 32 dining venues, scale is both the asset and the caveat. When it works, it means there's always a table available somewhere, always a pool with space, and a critical mass of guests that keeps entertainment programs viable at any time of day. When it doesn't, the buffet at peak hours moves slowly and the specialty restaurants fill fast despite reservation systems. Plan specialty dinners early in the stay.
The Elite Club differentiation is meaningful here — private pools attached to Elite Club villas are a genuine privacy upgrade in a resort where 994 rooms share 11 pools. If poolside quiet matters, pricing the Elite Club category against standard rooms is worthwhile; the gap is often smaller than it appears at first quote.
For families: RiuLand for 4–12 with a dedicated kids' water games area with slides, plus a children's pool. For adults wanting more than family resort: the Elite Club villas. Splash Water World access is complimentary for all guests.
