Overview

The beach is what makes Riu Oliva Beach worth considering. Grandes Playas in Corralejo is consistently rated among the best beaches in the Canary Islands — a wide, dune-backed stretch of pale sand with the clear, warm Atlantic. When a 3-star budget all-inclusive sits directly in front of that beach, you're getting the same water and sand that guests at more expensive properties access. For guests who prioritize beach quality over room quality, this is a meaningful value proposition.

The tradeoff is clear: this property has not had a major renovation since 2004. The rooms, decor, and some shared facilities reflect that age. Reviews describe dated interiors, especially in the 24 annexe buildings. Pest issues (ants, cockroaches) appear in enough reviews to be treated as a real possibility. If room condition matters as much as beach access, the newer properties in Corralejo are worth the price premium.

The bus stop directly outside the hotel is a practical advantage that guest reviews specifically note — Corralejo town center and its independent restaurants, shops, and nightlife are accessible without a taxi. For guests who want flexibility to eat or drink outside the all-inclusive occasionally, this is genuinely useful.

Practically: 808 rooms across one main building and 24 annexe bungalows, 3-star classification, 29–39 minutes from Fuerteventura Airport (FUE). Last major renovation 2004. Two outdoor pools plus two children's pools. Splash Water World access is not on-site but may be available through the Riu complex. Family-friendly with RiuLand kids' club and the Riu4U teen program.

Pros

  • +Direct access to Grandes Playas — one of the Canary Islands' finest beaches — from a budget-tier all-inclusive
  • +Bus stop directly outside the hotel gives access to Corralejo town center and independent restaurants without a taxi
  • +Atlántico restaurant serves authentic Canarian food — papas arrugadas and mojo sauce in a setting that most international all-inclusives don't offer
  • +Single room category available — uncommon in all-inclusive resorts and useful for solo travelers avoiding the single supplement

Cons

  • −Last major renovation was 2004 — rooms are dated across the board, with the annexe bungalows being the most worn. Pest issues (ants, cockroaches) appear in enough reviews to be a real possibility
  • −808 rooms across one main building and 24 annexes means the property sprawls — the annexe buildings are least convenient
  • −Pool provision (two main pools) is modest for 808 rooms

Tips

  • Book a main building room rather than an annexe — the condition difference is meaningful and worth the price premium
  • Make Atlántico and Mandarin reservations on arrival day — they're the only specialty alternatives to the main buffet
  • Use the bus stop outside for Corralejo town center trips — the walk into town (or bus) opens up independent dining options that give relief from the buffet on longer stays
  • Corralejo has some of Europe's best kitesurfing and windsurfing conditions — the beach operators near Grandes Playas offer lessons and rentals if wind sports are of interest
