TripAdvisor
Hotel Riu Bambu is a large, straightforward all-inclusive on Arena Gorda Beach in Punta Cana — one of the Dominican Republic's best stretches of Caribbean sand. Originally opened in 1999 and renovated most recently in 2017 (which expanded capacity to 1,000 rooms), the bungalow-style accommodation layout spreads guests across the grounds rather than stacking everyone in a single tower building.
The 24-hour all-inclusive format is the defining operational feature: food and drinks are available at any hour through the Sports Bar, room service, and multiple bars that run late. For guests arriving on late night flights or with non-standard schedules, this continuity matters. Seven restaurants cover Dominican, Italian, steak, Japanese hibachi, and an international buffet — a reasonable range for a value-tier Punta Cana property.
Access to Splash Water World (shared with neighboring Riu properties) adds a water park excursion option. Five pools across the grounds handle the volume of 1,000 rooms without critical crowding. Arena Gorda Beach is the straightforward Caribbean beach experience — soft white sand, warm turquoise water, reliable conditions.
The limitations: the 2017 renovation updated capacity rather than quality, and maintenance issues — non-functional TVs, phones, and occasional odor complaints — appear in reviews with some consistency. Tennis courts are in poor condition. The resort competes on price rather than refinement, which is a valid market position but worth understanding before booking.
Practically: 1,000 rooms, 15 km from Punta Cana International Airport (around 20 minutes), mid-to-budget pricing for the Punta Cana all-inclusive market.
