TripAdvisor
The primary reason to book Grand Decameron Los Cabos over higher-priced Los Cabos alternatives is budget. At 153 rooms on the Sea of Cortez's quieter San José del Cabo side, this property offers direct beachfront access, a functional all-inclusive program (domestic and standard imported beverages, buffet and à la carte dining), and the Sea of Cortez's characteristic calm, turquoise water — at a price point below what most Cabo del Sol mega-resorts charge. Previously operating as Royal Decameron Los Cabos, the property shows its age in some areas but delivers on the basics.
The Sea of Cortez location is worth understanding before booking. Unlike the Pacific side around Cabo San Lucas, the Sea of Cortez at San José del Cabo generally has calmer swimming conditions — the water is flatter, swimmable most days, and the sunsets are over the water to the west rather than the east. Costa Azul Beach fronting the resort is a real beach with warm water rather than the dramatic but often unswimmable Pacific beaches further along the cape.
Guest reviews are honest about the property's age. It's been operational for some time without a comprehensive recent renovation, and this shows in some room categories and common areas. The basic facilities — three pools (including adults-only options), two à la carte restaurants with reservations, and the main buffet — cover the necessary all-inclusive ground without the amenity depth of newer properties. The Eco-Certified designation reflects genuine sustainability practices.
Located 13-19 km from Los Cabos International Airport (SJD), the transfer is 15-20 minutes. The Royal Decameron Spa offers a hydrotherapy circuit, sauna, steam room, massages, and facials at extra cost. Three pools include adults-only options. The property targets both families and couples without strongly differentiating between them.
