The short airport transfer and tranquil, private beachfront setting within a secure complex are significant positives for a relaxing stay.
Check-in Efficiency
Some guests have experienced a lengthy check-in process, which can be a point of frustration upon arrival.
Buffet Variety
While à la carte options are highly rated, the main buffet restaurant occasionally receives feedback for lacking variety compared to other dining venues.
Beach for Swimming
Despite its beauty, some reviews indicate the private beach is not consistently ideal for swimming.
Secluded Location
The resort's peaceful and private setting means it is quite distant from downtown Mazatlán and major shopping areas, limiting off-resort exploration without a taxi.
Preferred Club Value
A recurring sentiment suggests that the additional cost for the Preferred Club upgrade does not always deliver sufficient perceived value for some guests.

Four Diamond Award
2024
AAA
Dreams Estrella del Mar is the newest all-inclusive in Mazatlán, having opened in 2024 inside the private Estrella del Mar golf community. The gated setting means a quieter, more insulated environment than Mazatlán's main hotel zone — for some guests this is a draw; for others it's an inconvenience since the city center requires a separate trip. The airport (General Rafael Buelna International) is 10–25 minutes away depending on traffic — one of the shorter transfers among Riviera Nayarit and Pacific coast properties.
The resort targets families and couples who want a new facility with modern finishes. All 358 rooms are suites with ocean views, and the AAA Four Diamond designation reflects the higher-tier positioning. The water park (large waterslide plus lazy river with caves) is a legitimate family amenity, not a token gesture. The adjacent Jack Nicklaus-designed TPC golf course — the only TPC-certified course in South America — is available to guests at a discounted rate but is not included in the all-inclusive rate.
The central limitation is the beach. Multiple guest accounts note that Estrella del Mar's beach is not reliably suitable for swimming. The Pacific current along this stretch can be strong, and on many days the water is not calm enough for casual wading. The pools are the primary aquatic option for most guests, which means beach access is more scenic than functional for a significant portion of the year.
The Unlimited-Luxury program covers all main à la carte restaurants (no reservations typically required), top-shelf spirits around the clock, 24-hour room service, and kids' and teens' club access. The Preferred Club tier adds an exclusive adults-only pool and lounge. Eight dining venues serve the 358-suite property — a lower ratio than comparable AMR Collection resorts, which occasionally results in wait times at the World Café buffet during peak meal periods. Portofino (adults-only Italian) is the property's most formal dining setting.
High season runs late November through April for couples; July and August are the family peak months. The Estrella del Mar turtle sanctuary adjacent to the property offers guided tours and potential hatchling releases from July through December — worth asking the concierge about scheduling.
