General for Divi properties
TripAdvisor
Divi Southwinds' location in St. Lawrence Gap is its headline feature. The Gap — as Barbadians call it — is one of the island's most concentrated strips of local restaurants, bars, and nightlife, and the resort sits in the middle of it. Unlike isolated all-inclusive properties where you eat on-site for a week, Southwinds operates on a European plan or bed-and-breakfast basis, which pushes you toward the neighborhood. That's a feature, not a bug: the local roti shops, flying fish dinner spots, and rum bars on the Gap generally outshine the on-property dining on both quality and price.
This suits independent travelers, couples on their second or third Barbados trip, and families who genuinely intend to rent a car and explore the island. Guests who want everything organized and paid for in advance, with nightly entertainment and swim-up bars, should look at the Platinum Coast all-inclusives instead. Southwinds requires more initiative.
The honest challenge: some rooms, particularly older furniture and kitchen fixtures, are dated. The 2018 renovation covered much of the property, but guest feedback notes inconsistencies. Housekeeping is reported as weekly rather than daily in some units — that's a mismatch for guests expecting daily service. Confirm the housekeeping schedule before arrival.
Practically: 133 suites ranging from 506 sq ft one-bedroom units up to 1,300 sq ft two-bedroom suites, all with full kitchens. Three pools, half-mile direct access to Dover Beach, miniature golf, tennis courts, and Diana Loleta spa on-site. Kids under 12 stay free. Grantley Adams Airport is 6–7 miles away, about 10–15 minutes.
