Pros & Cons
Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit
Pros
- AAA Five Diamond and Forbes Five-Star simultaneously — one of the most decorated all-inclusive resorts in Mexico
- Suites start at 1,000 sq ft with private terraces, ocean views, and 24-hour butler concierge — the entry level here exceeds most competitors' premium categories
- Premium spirits, wines, and 24-hour room service are fully included — not standard at most all-inclusives, even premium ones
- Banderas Bay is swimmable — actual ocean swimming possible, unlike Los Cabos Pacific corridor properties
Cons
- Pool lounger competition peaks by 8 AM in high season (December through March) — early rising is required for preferred positions
- Some ocean view suites have partial obstructions from palm trees or the Selva del Mar restaurant building — ask at booking about specific suite positioning
- Piaf and Frida fill up during high season — book before arrival rather than assuming walk-in availability
Sunscape Dominicus La Romana
Pros
- Playa Dominicus is genuinely one of the best beaches in the Dominican Republic — calm, clear, and shallow enough for young children.
- La Cala floating pier restaurant is a memorable dining experience even if it costs extra — the ocean setting is genuinely unique.
- La Romana Airport is only 21 minutes away — one of the shortest airport transfers among Dominican Republic all-inclusives.
- The 'kid's check-in' red-carpet welcome is a small touch that families with young children consistently mention as a positive first impression.
Cons
- Room quality is uneven — Sun Club rooms have been recently renovated but standard Deluxe categories vary by building and guest reviews note inconsistent hot water and noise transfer.
- At 854 rooms, the property is large enough that walking between buildings, beach, and restaurants covers real distance.
- Water shoes are genuinely needed for beach entry due to scattered rocks — pack them, don't just hope for the best.
