The resort's beautiful location on Kabira Bay, with its pristine white sands and crystal-clear turquoise waters, is a major draw, offering accessible and rich marine life perfect for snorkeling.
High-Quality Buffet Dining
The extensive buffet receives high marks for its variety and quality, featuring fresh international, Japanese, and Okinawan dishes that cater to diverse tastes.
Dated Room Facilities & Humidity
While comfortable and clean, rooms are often noted as 'old' or 'outdated,' with high humidity frequently causing damp bedding, a recurring practical issue for guests.
Smaller Scale & Limited F&B
Some experienced Club Med visitors find Kabira Ishigaki to be smaller than other resorts, offering fewer main restaurants and bars, which might impact the overall vibrancy for some.
Remote Location & Transport Issues
The resort's remote setting limits dining and entertainment options outside the property, and the lack of elevators can pose an inconvenience for guests managing luggage.
Activity Availability Challenges
While numerous activities are offered, some water sports are weather-dependent and may be suspended, and equipment for certain activities like mountain bikes can be limited, affecting access.

Kabira Bay's status as a protected marine park within a UNESCO World Heritage area is the defining fact about this resort's location. The protection means the water clarity is exceptional and the coral reef ecology is genuinely intact — not typical resort beach conditions. Manta ray encounters are the most-cited experience in guest reviews, and while sightings are subject to conditions, the site has a legitimate reputation for manta access that's earned through its marine park positioning.
The resort's Okinawan cultural programming differentiates it from standard tropical all-inclusives. Sanshin (traditional Okinawan string instrument) lessons, Eisa dance workshops, and local cooking classes are woven into the activities schedule — these aren't token cultural add-ons but part of a coherent regional identity that the property maintains. The cuisine is explicitly Okinawan longevity-focused, using locally sourced ingredients and incorporating Ishigaki beef (the island's premium wagyu, though available as an extra-charge premium item) and fresh seafood from the surrounding reef.
The resort is small at 181 rooms, which keeps the atmosphere personal. Rooms are in 3-story bungalows facing the sea, with Okinawan warm-tone decor and wooden balconies. The main restaurant (The Main Restaurant) is a buffet with international and Japanese coverage, but the premium Ishigaki Beef, lobster, king crab, and Kabira Sushi Boat items require advance reservation and extra charge — worth knowing before arrival.
Kabira Bay itself is notable: the water is too precious ecologically for motorized watercraft in the bay, which means you swim in snorkel gear or clear-bottom boats for the bay view, not speedboats. Wind and ocean conditions affect visibility and manta encounters — the best months are typically March through November. New Ishigaki Airport (ISG) is 15 km, approximately 30 minutes by transfer.
